Cysticercosis, the consequence of ingesting viable eggs of the porcine tapeworm Taenia solium, currently remains one of the most common human parasitic conditions worldwide. Although preventable by the proper disposal of human wastes, cysticercosis of the central nervous system (neurocysticercosis) accounts for a substantial proportion of cases of ...

Although cysticercosis is a common disease in developing countries, oral lesions produced by this parasitic infestation are rare. In this report we document a case of oral cysticercosis in a 7-year-old girl who sought treatment for an asymptomatic nodule of the left buccal mucosa that had been clinically diagnosed as a mucocele.

High prevalence of taeniasis and Taenia solium cysticercosis in children in western Sichuan, China.
Acta Tropica, 2019Data in China on human Taenia infections, including Taenia solium cysticercosis, is largely lacking. We aimed to determine the prevalence of taeniasis with all three human Taenia species as well as T.

In 1976 a 28-year-old Ecuadoran male suffered paraparesis after a kick to his back. Iophendylate myelography was followed by thoracic laminectomy with incomplete resolution of the paraparesis. One year later, worsening of the paraparesis was managed by further thoracic laminectomy without improvement.

Cysticercosis is a common public health problem in the Tropics. However, disseminated cysticercosis is rare. We report a patient with chronic liver disease and seizures, in whom a simple plain radiographic examination helped in narrowing down the differential diagnosis to disseminated cysticercosis.

Cysticercosis is the result of infection with the larval stage of the tapeworm, Taenia solium. The parasite may settle at any site in the body without causing symptoms, which arise almost exclusively from the involvement of brain or eye, and this may occur several years after infection. Cysticercosis is one of the leading causes of acquired epilepsy in

Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 1992
With increasing immigration from endemic regions, the incidence of cysticercosis in North America is rising. This fascinating disease with its varied presentations may pose complex management dilemmas whose resolutions often require a combined approach to treatment involving medical and, in some cases, selected surgical intervention.

With the increasing numbers of immigrants coming to the United States from areas where Taeniasis and cysticercosis are endemic, it is important to be familiar with some of these more common entities. We present a patient with both neurologic and soft tissue cysticercosis as well as a review of the available literature.

A case with cysticercosis cysts in the spinal subarachnoid space with unique myelographic features is discussed. One of the cysts moved within the spinal subarachnoid space during the myelographic examination. Recognition of the possibility that mobility of the cyst may occur between the time of the myelographic study and laminectomy is important for ...

In this country, cerebral cysticercosis is not commonly implicated as the etiology of an otherwise uncomplicated seizure disorder occurring during childhood. Nine children with neurologic symptomatology and radiographic (computed tomography) evidence consistent with cerebral cysticercosis have been evaluated.
