Outcomes of Ureteral Stent Removal by Flexible Cystoscope Versus Semirigid Ureteroscope: A Prospective Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of Urological Surgery, 2022
Objective:Ureteral stents are usually removed after 2-4 weeks. Classically rigid cystoscope was used for stent removal along with retrieval forceps. A flexible cystoscope is an excellent alternative to a rigid cystoscope to reduce discomfort.

Method for improving photodynamic diagnosis and surgery of bladder tumours using cystoscopes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present a new concept on how to remove unwanted green fluorescence from urine during Photodynamic Diagnostics of tumours in the bladder using cystoscopy. A high power LED based light source (525 nm) has been made in our laboratory.

Pulling the plug on a pseudomonas outbreak: ancillary equipment as vectors of infection

open access: yes, 2023
Objectives: Outbreaks of infection related to flexible endoscopes are well described. However, flexible endoscopy also requires the use of ancillary equipment such as irrigation plugs.

Are single-use flexible cystoscopes environmentally sustainable? A lifecycle analysis

open access: yes, 2023
Objective: Single-use flexible cystoscopes provide a safe and cost-effective evolution to current practice. However, the environmental impact of single-use devices needs to be considered in a healthcare system that is being increasingly scrutinised for ...

An optical method for reducing green fluorescence from urine during fluorescence-guided cystoscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) of bladder tumour tissue significantly improves endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of bladder cancer in rigid cystoscopes in the operating theatre and thus reduces tumour recurrence. PDD comprises the use of blue light, which

Design, Prototyping and Control of a Flexible Cystoscope for Biomedical Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Kidney stone and prostate hyperplasia are very common urogenital diseases all over the world. To treat these diseases, one of the ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy), PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy), cystoscopes or open surgery techniques ...

Pre‐clinical evaluation of a laser system with emission control based on stone vs soft tissue recognition

open access: yesBJU International, EarlyView.
Objective To evaluate the feasibility and performance of the StoneSense™ module (SSM; IPG Medical, Marlborough, MA, USA), a prototype real‐time target recognition unit integrated into a IPG Thulium Fiber Laser (TFL). Materials and Methods The SSM analyses the spectral signature of back reflected light‐emitting diode (LED) light from the target ...

A SIMPLE CYSTOSCOPE HOLDER [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1914
Cystoscope holders are made either in the form of a floor-stand or to be attached to the examining-table. They are usually either too heavy or too bulky for supporting a light instrument like a cystoscope, while some are complicated and clumsy. I have constructed a holder which is easy to manage, simple in construction, light and strong and will hold ...
