Risk of metachronous upper tract urothelial carcinoma following non‐muscle‐invasive bladder cancer

open access: yesBJU International, EarlyView.
Objective To determine the risk and timing of metachronous upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) after non‐muscle‐invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Patients and Methods In this multi‐institutional retrospective cohort study involving academic and community hospitals, clinicopathological data were collected from patients with NMIBC treated between 2005

Construction of extended 3D field of views of the internal bladder wall surface: a proof of concept

open access: yes, 2016
3D extended field of views (FOVs) of the internal bladder wall facilitate lesion diagnosis, patient follow-up and treatment traceability. In this paper, we propose a 3D image mosaicing algorithm guided by 2D cystoscopic video-image registration for ...

Exploring glass as a novel method for hands-free data entry in flexible cystoscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present a way to annotate cystoscopy finding on Google Glass in a reproducible and hands free manner for use by surgeons during operations in the sterile environment inspired by the current practice of hand-drawn sketches.

Efficacy of dexmedetomidine-ketamine vs. fentanylketamine on saturated oxygen, hemodynamic responses and sedation in cystoscopy: a doubleblinded randomized controlled clinical trial

open access: yesMedical Gas Research, 2020
Cystoscopy is a diagnostic and invasive procedure for treatment and follow-up of genitourinary system patients and could be performed with a variety of anesthesia techniques. The study aimed to assess the efficacy of dexmedetomidine-ketamine vs. fentanyl-

Factors associated with flexible cystoscope longevity: an analysis of supplier and health service datasets

open access: yesBJU International, EarlyView.
Objectives To investigate the associations between how reusable flexible cystoscopes (FCs) are managed during their functioning lifetime and their longevity. Patients and Methods This was an exploratory retrospective analysis of administrative data collected by a medical supplies company (KARL STORZ Endoscopy (UK) Ltd) on FC usage linked at a National ...

Urinary Tumor DNA to Identify Candidates for Repeat Transurethral Resection in Non‐Muscle‐Invasive Bladder Cancer

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Urinary tumor DNA (utDNA) represents a powerful noninvasive biomarker to refine the need for repeat TURBT in high‐risk NMIBC. In our cohort of 161 patients, utDNA testing achieved superior accuracy to cytology, strongly predicted residual disease and recurrence, and could safely reduce unnecessary repeat resections by up to one‐third.

Mixed‐methods approach to exploring patients’ perspectives on the acceptability of a urinary biomarker test in replacing cystoscopy for bladder cancer surveillance

open access: yesBJU International, 2019
To determine the minimal accepted sensitivity (MAS) of a urine biomarker that patients are willing to accept to replace cystoscopy and to assess qualitatively their views and reasons.
