Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Pulmonary Cystic Echinococcosis: Two Cases, Two Treatment Options

open access: yesOman Medical Journal, 2020
Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic infection caused by the tapeworm of the genus Echinococcus, a cestode endemic in many parts of the world. CE can affect any organ, with the lung being the second most commonly affected organ after the liver. For

Baker's Cyst

open access: yesActa Rheumatologica Scandinavica, 1965
SummaryTwenty-six patients with Baker's cysts have been observed in the period January 1963 to May 1964. Swelling, redness, tenderness and pain in the leg below the cyst was noticed in 11 patients. Seven of these had anti-coagulation treatment before admission.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Evaluation of the Local and Peripheral Immune Responses in Patients with Cystic Echinococcosis

open access: yesPathogens
Background: Cystic echinococcosis (CE) cysts may persist for decades because of immune modulation mechanisms. Here, we characterize the cysts and the blood immune responses in patients with CE.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Non-functional parathyroid cyst - diagnostic pitfall: A case-report [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2015
Introduction. Parathyroid cysts are relative rare and they may be misdiagnosed with thyroid nodules. Parathyroid cysts are characterized by elevated level of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in cystic fluid. Case report.
