Ultrastructure of schizonts in the liver of cats with experimentally induced cytauxzoonosis
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1985SUMMARY Schizonts in the liver of 2 cats with cytauxzoonosis were studied by both light and electron microscopies. By light microscopy, the cytoplasm of macrophages in the sinusoids and small vascular channels contained schizonts with cytomeres or both cytomeres and mature merozoites.

Canine Haemobartonellosis, Canine Hepatozoonosis, and Feline Cytauxzoonosis
Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice, 1991Although Lyme borreliosis (Lyme disease), ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and babesiosis occur more frequently in dogs or cats, from a clinical standpoint, other tick-borne diseases such as canine haemobartonellosis, canine hepatozoonosis, and feline cytauxzoonosis are just as important to recognize. Information concerning these less common

Experimentally induced cytauxzoonosis-like disease in domestic cats
Veterinary Parasitology, 1980Abstract The methods by which the organisms causing feline cytauxzoonosis have been maintained in laboratory cats for 2.5 years are described. Passage of the parasite was accomplished by parenteral administration of fresh or deep frozen blood or ground tissue from infected moribund cats.

Treatment of experimentally induced cytauxzoonosis in cats with parvaquone and buparvaquone
Veterinary Parasitology, 1990The efficacy of parvaquone (Clexon) and buparvaquone (Butalex) in treating experimentally induced feline cytauxzoonosis was explored. Domestic cats were inoculated subcutaneously with blood from a cat infected with Cytauxzoon felis and treated daily with either 20 or 30 mg kg-1 parvaquone, or 5 or 10 mg kg-1 buparvaquone, beginning on either the first ...

Cytauxzoonosis is manifesting as an important hemoprotozoal disease of felines. It can occur as acute or chronic disease or subclinical carrier infection. The disease has various non- specific clinical symptoms and hematobiochemical changes. Its diagnosis relies on microscopic blood smear and tissue aspirates examination and PCR assay.

Bobcats (Lynx rufus) are the reservoir hosts for Cytauxzoon felis, the causative agent of cytauxzoonosis. Cytauxzoonosis is a highly fatal tickborne blood protozoal disease of domestic and exotic cats. Treatment of clinically affected cats has generally been unrewarding. In our report, 6 of 7 cats had signs of illness and laboratory findings indicative

A fatal infection in a bengal tiger resembling cytauxzoonosis in domestic cats
Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1996A young Bengal tiger born and kept in a German zoo had died of an unknown protozoal infection in 1984. Retrospective histological and electron microscopical examination of the organs showed the changes to be identical with those of cytauxzoonosis in domestic cats. This is the first report of fatal cytauxzoonosis in a tiger.

Hematologic Effects of Cytauxzoonosis in Florida Panthers and Texas Cougars in Florida
Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1999Cytauxzoon felis is a long-recognized hemoparasite of free-ranging Florida panthers (Puma concolor coryi), but its prevalence and effect on the population has not been assessed. Red blood cell indices and white blood cell counts were compared between infected and noninfected Florida panthers and Texas cougars (Puma concolor stanleyana) from 1983-1997 ...

A progress report on the status of a new disease of American cats: Cytauxzoonosis
Comparative Immunology, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 1979A protozoon disease of domestic cats in the U.S.A. which resembled diseases of African ungulates caused by blood parasites of the family Theileridae and the genus Cytauxzoon was first described by scientists of the University of Missouri in 1976. The Plum Island Animal Disease Center of the U.S.

Case Report: Behavioural Changes in a Feline with Cytauxzoonosis
Romanian Journal of Veterinary SciencesThis case report describes a one-year-old male cat diagnosed with Cytauxzoon spp., who exhibited behavioural symptoms typically associated with illness, including lethargy and decreased appetite, prior to treatment.
