This thesis was meant to evaluate allele and genotype frequencies of kappa-casein (CSN3) in artificial insemination bulls in the Czech Republic of Czech Fleckvieh breed (n = 133) and Holstein breed (n = 58). Studied bulls were born between 1990 and 2005.

THE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURES ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF CZECH FLECKVIEH COWS
A group of 98 Czech Fleckvieh cows (one section) was observed over the period of one year with the aim to determine the variation in their milk performance and behaviour at cowshed different cowshed temperatures. Behaviour were recorded once a week (on the same day) at 10:00.

Relationships of sire breeding values and cutting parts of progeny in Czech Fleckvieh bulls [PDF]
Abstract. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of the meat yield breeding values of sires on highly valued parts of carcasses in their progeny. The study was carried out on Czech Fleckviehs, a breed dual purpose milk-beef production. Cutting parts evaluated were: round, strip loin and tender loin (first-class meat); rib, shoulder blade ...

Leptin Promoter Region Genotype Frequencies and Its Variability in the Czech Fleckvieh Cattle [PDF]
Abstract To investigate the differences between the lineages of the Czech Fleckvieh cattle in Leptin promoter SNP C963T, 695 Czech Fleckvieh cows (650 from production herds and 45 from the Genetic Resources Program (GR)) were examined using PCR-RFLP.

Biological characteristics that influence the SEUROP system classification for Czech fleckvieh and Holstein bull carcasses [PDF]
The aim of this work was to analyse the influence of certain characteristics (aptitude, age, carcass weight, net daily gain, feeding) on the final carcass classification in the SEUROP system. 703 Czech Fleckvieh bulls and 642 Holstein bulls were studied. The animals were slaughtered and evaluated at a designated beef processing company.

Analysis of the phenotypic relationships between type traits and functional survival in Czech Fleckvieh cows [PDF]
The phenotypic relationships between type traits and functional traits were analyzed in 47 786 Czech Fleckvieh cows first calved from 1994 to 2003. Functional survival was defined as the number of days from first calving to culling. All the cows were scored for conformation during the first lactation.

Solar Drying and Sensory Attributes of Eland (Taurotragus oryx) Jerky
A double‐pass solar drier (DPSD) and a laboratory oven (LO) were used for thin‐layer drying of eland and beef. Prior to drying, the physicochemical characteristics of the raw meat were determined, such as pH, dry matter content (%), Warner‐Bratzler shear force (N), pigment concentration (mg·kg−1), weight loss during cooking (%), water holding capacity (
