Cold hardiness mechanisms and modeling: existing approaches and future avenues

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 6, Page 2668-2682, March 2026.
Summary Cold hardiness models are useful tools to predict cold damage in plants, such as those produced by unseasonal temperature cycles or by increased cold exposure. Although development of these models started about five decades ago, their applications remain limited.

Development of a Four‐Language Questionnaire to Investigate Environmental Risk Factors for the Development of Canine Atopic Dermatitis and to Monitor Disease Course and Progression

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 37, Issue 1, Page 34-44, February 2026.
Background: The chronic and multifactorial character of canine atopic dermatitis (cAD) often leads to poor disease control and treatment dissatisfaction. Environmental factors are likely to contribute to the disease development and may play a more important role than assumed previously.

Tracking terrestrial wildlife with environmental DNA: Methods designed by and for Indigenous organizations

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 1, January 2026.
Water, dust, invertebrate and snow sampling for detecting cervidae eDNA. Image credits: Glenn Polson and Annie Claude Bélisle. Consent was obtained for the photos to be used for scientific publications. Abstract Context. Environmental DNA (eDNA) could be a great addition to the toolbox of Indigenous organizations for wildlife monitoring.

Rewarding Farm‐level Environmental Outcomes – an Indicator Based Approach Récompenser les résultats environnementaux au niveau de l’exploitation agricole – une approche fondée sur des indicateurs Belohnung für Umweltleistungen auf Betriebsebene – ein indikatorbasierter Ansatz

open access: yesEuroChoices, Volume 24, Issue 3, Page 26-34, December 2025.
Summary Many agricultural, agri‐environmental and organic support payments are paid at a flat‐rate per hectare that does not reflect actual environmental outcomes on farms. We propose an indicator‐based approach using a combination of result and action (proxy) based indicators to assess overall environmental outcomes at farm‐level as a basis for future

DeepForestVision: Automated wildlife identification for camera traps of African tropical forests

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 6, Issue 4, October–December 2025.
Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) observed on camera trap in Kibale National Park, Uganda. This frame was extracted from a 30 s video classified as chimpanzee by DeepForestVision with a confidence score of 0.99 (©Sebitoli Chimpanzee Project). Abstract Tropical forests are rich in biodiversity but face the rapid loss of their wildlife due to increasing ...

All‐in‐one, versatile and low‐cost experimental set‐up to implement environmental stochasticity in mesocosms (PiStoch)

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, Page 1955-1965, September 2025.
Abstract Environmental stochasticity in abiotic factors is inherent to ecosystems and is exacerbated by global change. However, experimental protocols typically cancel this factor by using cyclic or constant conditions, limiting the study of environmental variations.

Reclaiming Hiring: The miyo‐wîcêhtowin Hiring Framework

open access: yesCanadian Public Administration, Volume 68, Issue 3, Page 538-555, September 2025.
Abstract This article introduces the miyo‐wîcêhtowin Hiring Framework, an Indigenous‐led, values‐based model developed to transform public sector hiring practices.
