Optimal Mechanisms for Single Machine Scheduling [PDF]

open access: yes
We study the design of optimal mechanisms in a setting where job-agents compete for being processed by a service provider that can handle one job at a time. Each job has a processing time and incurs a waiting cost. Jobs need to be compensated for waiting.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Optimal design for goodness-of-fit of the Michaelis-Menten enzyme kinetic function [PDF]

open access: yes
We construct efficient designs for the Michaelis-Menten enzyme kinetic model capable of checking model assumption. An extended model, called EMAX model is also considered for this purpose.

Generalized Convolutional Neural Networks for Point Cloud Data

open access: yes, 2017
The introduction of cheap RGB-D cameras, stereo cameras, and LIDAR devices has given the computer vision community 3D information that conventional RGB cameras cannot provide. This data is often stored as a point cloud.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Safe Synthesis of 4,7-Dibromo[1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-d]pyridazine and Its SNAr Reactions

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
A safe and efficient synthesis of 4,7-dibromo[1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-d]pyridazine from the commercial diaminomaleonitrile is reported. Conditions for selective aromatic nucleophilic substitution of one or two bromine atoms by oxygen and nitrogen ...

San Marco D/L solar array system design and performance [PDF]

open access: yes
The design and performance of the solar array system for the San Marco D/L spacecraft is described in detail. The solar array system design is shown to be suitable for spacecraft which have elastically sensitized outer surfaces to measure aerodynamic ...

Development of D-Statcom in hardware in the loop system for voltage SAG mitigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The problem of power quality (PQ) is of utmost concern today. The widespread use of electronic equipment such as adjustable speed drive (ASD), programmable logic controller (PLC), information technology equipment in power electronics applications such

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in
