The impact of the Internet on R&D efficiency: theory and evidence
Technovation, 2006Particularly for the manufacturing sector, the efficiency of the R&D-process defines to a great extent a firm's competitiveness. Although there are many studies which present practical examples of how firms utilize the Internet to support their everyday research activities, there is not much theory to explain how and why the Internet improves R&

The path of R&D efficiency over time
International Journal of Industrial Organization, 2015Abstract In this paper we investigate the pattern of R&D efficiency in terms of the number of product innovations achieved by firms over time. Using a panel dataset of Spanish manufacturing firms for the period 1990–2006, we follow the innovative performance of R&D active firms and observe that innovation rates change over firms' R&D histories.

The Role of Knowledge in R&D Efficiency
The Quarterly Journal of Economics, 1982Past research has recognized that both demand and capability influence the allocation of R&D resources. Scholars have had an easier time getting a grip on demand than on capability. While it has been recognized that knowledge is an important part of capability, to date, formalization of knowledge and its role in R&D activity has been unsatisfactory ...

Hybrid Algorithms for Construction of D-Efficient Designs
2004We construct exact. D-efficient designs for linear regression models using a hybrid algorithm that consists of genetic and local search components. The genetic component is a genetic algorithm (GA) with a 100% mutation rate and ranking selection.

Measuring the R&D efficiency of regions by a parallel DEA game model
Scientometrics, 2017This paper proposes a model that can measure the R&D efficiency of each region (DMU) or each production unit while taking the inter-DMU competition and inter-subprocesses competition into account. The game cross-efficiency concept is introduced into the parallel DEA model.

Indicator Analysis for Evaluation of R&D Efficiency
2010Research indicators define a level of scientific activity of a society. The World Bank has developed adequate KAM indicators which help assess the readiness of ECA countries to support commercial innovation. Therefore, counties are ranked in three categories: countries that are "ready“ for implementing innovation support instruments, countries without ...

A study of the R&D efficiency and productivity of Chinese firms
Journal of Comparative Economics, 2003Abstract This paper investigates the influence of ownership on the research and development (R&D) efficiency of Chinese firms. In a sample of 8341 Chinese industrial firms, ownership is found to be a contributing factor in the cross-sectional variance of both R&D and productive efficiencies. The state sector has significantly lower R&D and productive

Co-operation in R&D, efficiency and European policy
European Review, 1994In this paper, the role of co-operative agreements in R&D, as a strategic option for firms confronted with the globalization of markets and the multiplication of sources of new technology is examined within the European context. It is argued that a plausible case can be made for co-operative R&D ventures, especially where positive and large ...

Saikosaponin D efficiently inhibits SVCV infection in vitro and in vivo
Aquaculture, 2019Abstract Spring viraemia of carp (SVC) triggered by spring viraemia of carp virus (SVCV), is an acute and highly lethal infectious disease for which there is currently no effective therapy. Saikosaponin D (SSD), one main constituent of Bupleurum yinchowense, increasingly draws attention for its extensive pharmacological activities.

An international comparison of R&D efficiency: DEA approach
Asian Journal of Technology Innovation, 2005Summary A prerequisite for making R&D more productive is to be able to measure its productivity. Most of the previous studies on this topic have attempted to measure R&D productivity at the firm or industry levels. In this study, however, R&D productivity is measured at the national level to provide R&D policy implications, particularly for Asian ...
