Real-Time Imaging of K atoms on Graphite: Interactions and Diffusion

open access: yes, 2010
Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) at liquid helium temperature is used to image potassium adsorbed on graphite at low coverage (~0.02 monolayer). Single atoms appear as protrusions on STM topographs.

Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.

Effect of Bilayer Thickness on Membrane Bending Rigidity

open access: yes, 2004
The bending rigidity $k_c$ of bilayer vesicles self-assembled from amphiphilic diblock copolymers has been measured using single and dual-micropipet techniques.

Tracking Motor Progression and Device‐Aided Therapy Eligibility in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterise the progression of motor symptoms and identify eligibility for device‐aided therapies in Parkinson's disease, using both the 5‐2‐1 criteria and a refined clinical definition, while examining differences across genetic subgroups.

Search for the Decays B^0 -> D^{(*)+} D^{(*)-}

open access: yes, 1997
Using the CLEO-II data set we have searched for the Cabibbo-suppressed decays B^0 -> D^{(*)+} D^{(*)-}. For the decay B^0 -> D^{*+} D^{*-}, we observe one candidate signal event, with an expected background of 0.022 +/- 0.011 events.

Prediction Model for Etiologic Differentiation of Isolated Vestibular Syndrome in Emergency Settings

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to develop and validate a predictive model for differentiating central from peripheral etiologies in patients with isolated vestibular syndrome (VS). Methods In this multicenter retrospective cohort study, 506 patients with isolated VS from five hospitals were divided into derivation (n = 301) and validation (n = 205)

Discrimination between two mechanisms of surface-scattering in a single-mode waveguide

open access: yes, 2011
Transport properties of a single-mode waveguide with rough boundary are studied by discrimination between two mechanisms of surface scattering, the amplitude and square-gradient ones. Although these mechanisms are generically mixed, we show that for some

Accelerated Progression of Gait Impairment in Parkinson's Disease and REM Sleep Without Atonia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective People with Parkinson's disease (PD) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep without atonia (RSWA) often have more severe gait disturbances compared to PD without RSWA. The association between the presence and expression of RSWA and the rate of progression of gait impairment in PD is unknown.

Impact of APOE ε4 Genotype Load on Cognitive Function and Lipid Metabolism in Patients With Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Apolipoprotein ε4 (APOE ε4) is a potent genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, its role in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) remains unclear. Given the clinical and pathological similarities between CSVD and AD, this study aimed to investigate the associations of APOE ε4 gene dosage with cognitive function and
