Abstract Cognitive impairment is a well‐recognized and debilitating symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD). Degradation in the cortical cholinergic system is thought to be a key contributor. Both postmortem and in vivo cholinergic positron emission tomography (PET) studies have provided valuable evidence of cholinergic system changes in PD, which are ...

Group strategy-proof social choice functions with binary ranges and arbitrary domains: characterization results [PDF]
JEL Classification Number: D71.We define different concepts of group strategy-proofness for social choice functions. We discuss the connections between the defined concepts under different assumptions on their domains of definition.

Extensive measurement in social choice
Extensive measurement is the standard measurement‐theoretic approach for constructing a ratio scale. It involves the comparison of objects that can be concatenated in an additively representable way. This paper studies the implications of extensively measurable welfare for social choice theory. We do this in two frameworks: an Arrovian framework with a

Oxycodone or Higher Dose of Levodopa for the Treatment of Parkinsonian Central Pain: OXYDOPA Trial
Abstract Background Among the different types of pain related to Parkinson's disease (PD), parkinsonian central pain (PCP) is the most disabling. Objectives We investigated the analgesic efficacy of two therapeutic strategies (opioid with oxycodone‐ prolonged‐release (PR) and higher dose of levodopa/benserazide) compared with placebo in patients with ...

Protein Grafting Techniques: From Peptide Epitopes to Lasso‐Grafted Neobiologics
The idea of grafting small peptide pharmacophores onto larger protein scaffolds, thus harvesting the advantages of both, has given rise to a variety of protein engineering strategies that are reviewed herein. We also describe our own “Lasso‐Grafting” approach, which combines traditional grafting concepts with mRNA display to streamline the production ...

The authors propose the total supply capability (TSC) of the low‐voltage flexible distribution network (LVFDN) for the first time. The influence mechanism for low‐voltage flexible interconnection on TSC is quantitatively analysed with a case study. Furthermore, suggestions for the planning and operation of LVFDN are given.

Background – Diagnosis of canine adverse food reactions (AFRs) is based on vague criteria, such as ‘>50% improvement’ during elimination diet trial (EDT) followed by ‘deterioration’ during provocation test (PT). Objective – The objective of the study was to use predefined criteria to evaluate response during EDT [i.e., Owner Global Assessment of ...

Buying voters with uncertain instrumental preferences
We analyze a vote‐buying model where the members of a committee vote on a proposal important to a vote buyer. Each member incurs a privately‐drawn disutility if the proposal passes. We characterize the cheapest combination of bribes that guarantees the proposal passes in all equilibria. When members vote simultaneously, the number of bribes is at least

A theory of fair random allocation under priorities
In the allocation of indivisible objects under weak priorities, a common practice is to break the ties using a lottery and to randomize over deterministic mechanisms. Such randomizations usually lead to unfairness and inefficiency ex ante. We propose and study the concept of ex ante fairness for random allocations, extending some key results in the one‐
