Ex post approaches to prioritarianism and sufficientarianism

open access: yesTheoretical Economics, Volume 20, Issue 4, Page 1367-1410, November 2025.
Although sufficientarianism has been gaining interest as a theory of distributive justice in recent years, it has not been examined in the presence of risk. We propose an ex post approach to sufficientarianism that has a strong link to ex post prioritarianism.

Efficient and strategy‐proof mechanism under general constraints

open access: yesTheoretical Economics, Volume 20, Issue 2, Page 481-509, May 2025.
This study investigates efficient and strategy‐proof mechanisms for allocating indivisible goods under constraints. First, we examine a setting without endowments. In this setting, we introduce a class of constraints—ordered accessibility—for which the serial dictatorship (SD) mechanism is Pareto‐efficient (PE), individually rational (IR), and group ...

α‐N‐Methyltransferase regiospecificity is mediated by proximal, redundant enzyme–substrate interactions

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 34, Issue 2, February 2025.
Abstract N‐Methylation of the peptide backbone confers pharmacologically beneficial characteristics to peptides that include greater membrane permeability and resistance to proteolytic degradation. The borosin family of ribosomally synthesized and post‐translationally modified peptides offer a post‐translational route to install amide backbone α‐N ...

Experimental Study of Spatiotemporal Variations in Lab‐Scale Fire Whirls

open access: yesJournal of Combustion, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
This study focused on the unsteady behavior of fire whirls. A laboratory‐scale fire whirl was generated, and temporal variations in flame height were measured from images taken by a high‐speed camera and subjected to frequency analysis. The flame height fluctuations of the fire whirl also showed intermittent behavior, such as the puffing of a pool ...

Cholinergic Basal Forebrain Integrity and Cognition in Parkinson's Disease: A Reappraisal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Evidence

open access: yesMovement Disorders, Volume 39, Issue 12, Page 2155-2172, December 2024.
Abstract Cognitive impairment is a well‐recognized and debilitating symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD). Degradation in the cortical cholinergic system is thought to be a key contributor. Both postmortem and in vivo cholinergic positron emission tomography (PET) studies have provided valuable evidence of cholinergic system changes in PD, which are ...

Extensive measurement in social choice

open access: yesTheoretical Economics, Volume 19, Issue 4, Page 1581-1618, November 2024.
Extensive measurement is the standard measurement‐theoretic approach for constructing a ratio scale. It involves the comparison of objects that can be concatenated in an additively representable way. This paper studies the implications of extensively measurable welfare for social choice theory. We do this in two frameworks: an Arrovian framework with a

Oxycodone or Higher Dose of Levodopa for the Treatment of Parkinsonian Central Pain: OXYDOPA Trial

open access: yesMovement Disorders, Volume 39, Issue 9, Page 1533-1543, September 2024.
Abstract Background Among the different types of pain related to Parkinson's disease (PD), parkinsonian central pain (PCP) is the most disabling. Objectives We investigated the analgesic efficacy of two therapeutic strategies (opioid with oxycodone‐ prolonged‐release (PR) and higher dose of levodopa/benserazide) compared with placebo in patients with ...

Protein Grafting Techniques: From Peptide Epitopes to Lasso‐Grafted Neobiologics

open access: yesChemPlusChem, Volume 89, Issue 8, August 2024.
The idea of grafting small peptide pharmacophores onto larger protein scaffolds, thus harvesting the advantages of both, has given rise to a variety of protein engineering strategies that are reviewed herein. We also describe our own “Lasso‐Grafting” approach, which combines traditional grafting concepts with mRNA display to streamline the production ...

P-wave Pentaquark and its Decay in the Quark Model with Instanton Induced Interaction

open access: yes, 2005
P-wave pentaquarks with strangeness +1, I=0 and J^P=1/2^+ are studied in the non-relativistic quark model with instanton induced interaction (III). We present their mass splittings and orbital-spin-isospin-color structures.

Total supply capability of electricity distribution networks considering flexible interconnection of low‐voltage service transformers

open access: yesIET Smart Grid, Volume 7, Issue 4, Page 386-399, August 2024.
The authors propose the total supply capability (TSC) of the low‐voltage flexible distribution network (LVFDN) for the first time. The influence mechanism for low‐voltage flexible interconnection on TSC is quantitatively analysed with a case study. Furthermore, suggestions for the planning and operation of LVFDN are given.
