A Novel Technique to Facilitate Dacryocystectomy Using Viscoelastic Substances

Orbit, 2011
The procedure of dacryocystectomy is described in a patient with Wegener's granulomatosis where bone preservation is essential for future reconstructive procedures. With the aid of canalicular clamps, viscoelastic substance is used to distend the lacrimal sac thereby facilitating easier dissection.

Dacryocystectomy for the Treatment of Dacryocystitis Patients With Wegener's Granulomatosis

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1989
ABSTRACT We evaluated a woman with Wegener's granulomatosis who was experiencing recurrent dacryocystitis. Nasolacrimal duct obstruction had been present for many years and epiphora was not a significant concern. Our experience with the development of nasalcutaneous fistulas following dacryocystorhinostomy in several patients with Wegener's ...

OUTCOME OF DACRYOCYSTECTOMY IN ELDERLY PATIENTS ATTENDING A TERTIARY CARE CENTRE IN KASHMIR

INDIAN JOURNAL OF APPLIED RESEARCH, 2022
Background: Dacryocystectomy (DCT) is a surgical procedure that involves complete removal of lacrimal sac. It is a less invasive procedure and can be used as an alternative to dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) in elderly patients. To Aim: determine the surgical outcome of DCT in elderly patients >65 years attending the Department of Ophthalmology ...

Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma of the Lacrimal Sac After Dacryocystectomy for Squamous Papilloma

Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2011
A mass that recurred after dacryocystectomy for benign squamous papilloma of the lacrimal sac was diagnosed as a high-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma in a 53-year-old man on histopathology. Local excision to the orbital periosteum was performed and gave a margin free of invasion.

The use of fibrin tissue adhesive as an aid to dacryocystectomy

Orbit, 1994
The procedure of dacryocystectomy is described in a child with craniodiaphyseal dysplasia. Fibrin tissue adhesive is used to distend and delineate the lacrimal sac and fistula to aid complete dissection.

Role of Dacryocystectomy in the Management of Failed Dacryocystorhinostomy Associated With Chronic Dacryocystitis

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1996
Abstract. Three patients had recurrent chronic dacryocystitis but no epiphora associated with failed dacryocystorhinostomies. Dacryocystectomy was performed on all three patients. These patients were cured of dacryocystitis following dacryocystectomy and none had epiphora postoperatively.

Orbital cyst of nasolacrimal duct derivation: a late complication of dacryocystectomy

Orbit, 1997
Dacryocystectomy was a commonly used operation for dacryocystitis before dacryocystorhinostomy became more popular. At present, the major use of this procedure is for tumors of the lacrimal sac and less frequently for correction of chronic dacryocystitis in the elderly.

Canaliculorhinostomy Following Dacryocystectomy for Removal of a Benign Fibrous Histiocytoma of the Lacrimal Sac

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1993
ABSTRACT A 41 -year-old woman had epiphora and a right lacrimal sac mass. A solid mass filling the entire lacrimal sac was found at surgery. After a month of testing and evaluation at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, the final diagnosis was benign fibrous histiocytoma.

Dacryocystectomy: Indications and Techniques

2014
Dacryocystectomy or DCT refers to a complete surgical extirpation of the lacrimal sac. It was first described by Thomas Woolhouse in 1724 and was the standard of care in its crude form, before the advent of dacryocystorhinostomy for management of dacryocystitis and lacrimal fistulae [1]. Rudolph Berlin later popularized it in the nineteenth century [1].

Is routine histopathological examination of dacryocystorhinostomy/dacryocystectomy specimens necessary? A tertiary eye hospital experience

Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2017
Limited literature documenting the incidence of unsuspected malignant neoplasm among dacryocystorhinostomy/Dacryocystectomy (DCR/DCT) specimens is reviewed to determine if routine biopsy of all the patients undergoing such procedures is required. We are evaluating if sending lacrimal sac specimens for histopathological examination is necessary as a ...
