A decade of renal dietetic staffing and malnutrition prevalence in dialysis patients: An observational study in a large dialysis population

open access: yesNutrition &Dietetics, Volume 83, Issue 4, Page 450-458, September 2026.
Abstract Aims This study explores the maintenance of dietetic full time equivalent staffing alongside malnutrition rate in a metropolitan renal dialysis service in Victoria, Australia. Objectives were to: (1) describe changes in dietitian staff‐to‐patient ratios over time; (2) evaluate dietetic service delivery against best practice guidelines and (3 ...

Platelet function in patients undergoing major non‐cardiac vascular surgery (PLUGS): a prospective cohort study*

open access: yesAnaesthesia, Volume 81, Issue 9, Page 1236-1244, September 2026.
Summary Introduction Patients who require major vascular surgery often receive antiplatelet therapy for primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. Clopidogrel resistance and variability in platelet recovery after drug discontinuation pose clinical challenges, particularly for regional anaesthesia and blood management.

Reversible High‐Degree Atrioventricular Block Associated With Magnesium Toxicity in Severe Pre‐Eclampsia

open access: yesAnnals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology, Volume 31, Issue 5, September 2026.
Standard‐dose magnesium sulfate may cause life‐threatening hypermagnesemia and reversible hig ‐degree atrioventricular block in pregnant women with acute kidney injury. Prompt recognition, discontinuation of magnesium sulfate, and intravenous calcium gluconate can rapidly restore cardiac conduction and improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Peripheral κ opioid receptor in pain and inflammation: From molecular signalling and gene expression to drug discovery

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 17, Page 5157-5189, September 2026.
The κ opioid receptor (κ receptor, KOR) is a G protein‐coupled receptor with well established roles in analgesia and immune modulation. Although historically studied primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), growing evidence indicates that κ signalling in peripheral tissues plays an important role in regulating pain, inflammation and immune ...

Microvascular dysfunction in chronic kidney disease: A feasibility study

open access: yesClinical Physiology and Functional Imaging, Volume 46, Issue 5, September 2026.
Abstract Background Microvascular dysfunction contributes to PAD progression, and its detection may facilitate earlier recognition and risk stratification. People with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a high burden of PAD, yet early detection is limited by disease‐related changes, such as medial calcification. Near‐infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)
