DAILY HEMODIALYSIS—SELECTED TOPICS: Quality of Life and Daily Hemodialysis
Seminars in Dialysis, 2004ABSTRACTPreliminary findings indicate that daily hemodialysis positively impacts patients’ energy/fatigue and other uremic and intradialytic symptoms. In addition to improvements in perceived symptoms, improvements in patients’ perceived physical and psychosocial functioning have been reported.

Daily Hemodialysis: Dialysis for the Next Century
Advances in Renal Replacement Therapy, 1998There are currently over 150 patients receiving daily hemodialysis in over 12 centers worldwide. The experiences of over 200 daily hemodialysis patients spanning 30 years have been reviewed. The reports uniformly describe subjective and objective improvements.

A Brief History of Daily Hemodialysis
Home Hemodialysis International, 1998Daily hemodialysis has been in uninterrupted practice since its introduction in California in 1967. Early trials were stopped for technical, logistical, and economical problems, but a rapidly increasing number of centers now perform it on close to 200 patients, either as long nightly or short daytime hemodialysis.Increasing the frequency of dialysis ...

Daily Home Hemodialysis: A Hybrid of Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis
Advances in Renal Replacement Therapy, 1996Despite that routine home hemodialysis, performed with thrice weekly frequency, had provided the best clinical results of any dialysis modality, it has been losing competition to center hemodialysis and home peritoneal dialysis. The main reason for this paradox is a lack of suitable equipment for home hemodialysis.

Daily Hemodialysis: A Dialysis Provider Perspective
Advances in Renal Replacement Therapy, 2001Regardless of size, ownership or corporate structure, the goal of the dialysis provider is to deliver the best renal substitution therapy in the safest and most convenient manner, at a cost commensurate with reimbursement. This paper reviews the available data on daily hemodialysis, focusing on its ability to satisfy this goal. In addition, it examines

Requirements of an In-Center Daily Hemodialysis Program
2004There are currently very few center-based daily hemodialysis programs. The reason is obvious as one examines its financial impact to the provider.

[Daily nutrient intake in hemodialysis].
Giornale italiano di nefrologia : organo ufficiale della Societa italiana di nefrologia, 2003Although there is a higher nutrient requirement, food intake in haemodialysis patients is often inadequate. Protein nitrogen appearance (PNA) indirectly estimates the mean protein intake during the short interdialysis period, but it does not measure the daily nutrient intake, which is generally unknown.

Heparin Use in Daily Hemodialysis
Hemodialysis International, 2004More frequent dialysis is thought to be associated with increased heparin requirements; however, limited data are available which compare heparin requirements of conventional to daily dialysis. Objectives: To determine differences in heparin dose during conventional thrice‐weekly dialysis (CHD) compared to daily hemodialysis (DHD).Methods: All ...

Remote Monitoring of Daily Nocturnal Hemodialysis
Hemodialysis International, 2001Daily nocturnal hemodialysis (DNHD) is a new variant of home hemodialysis that allows patients to dialyze at home, at night, while they sleep, providing longer duration and greater frequency of treatments. This paper describes a 3‐year experience with remote monitoring of DNHD patients over the Internet, and we review the remote monitoring experience ...

Technical Considerations for Short Daily Home Hemodialysis and Nocturnal Home Hemodialysis
Advances in Renal Replacement Therapy, 2001Technical considerations for daily short home hemodialysis and nocturnal home hemodialysis plays an important role in the long-term success of such programs. The equipment must be selected based on the patient and program requirements. System maintenance programs and patient education procedures must be developed to ensure patient safety and compliance
