The Effect of Maximum Daily Temperature on Outdoor Violence

Crime & Delinquency, 2020
Although temperature aggression theory maintains that a high temperature engenders more aggressive behavior by irritating individuals, routine activity theory asserts that violent crime increases as temperature rises because of enhanced interaction among the public in outdoor settings.

On the impacts of computing daily temperatures as the average of the daily minimum and maximum temperatures

Atmospheric Research, 2017
Abstract Daily temperature values are generally computed as the average of the daily minimum and maximum observations, which can lead to biases in the estimation of daily averaged values. This study examines the impacts of these biases on the calculation of climatology and trends in temperature extremes at 409 sites in North America with at least 25 ...

Bayesian Modelling of Summer Daily Maximum Temperature Data

PROOF, 2022
The extremes of summer daily maximum temperature was analyzed using the generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) to the Bisho weather station data, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. Since the extreme events are naturally scarce it is expected that the use of a Bayesian inference may improve the efficiency of the parameters estimates of the distribution

Regression Model for Daily Maximum Stream Temperature

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 2003
An empirical model is developed to predict daily maximum stream temperatures for the summer period. The model is created using a stepwise linear regression procedure to select significant predictors. The predictive model includes a prediction confidence interval to quantify the uncertainty.

TRENDS OF MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM DAILY TEMPERATURES IN CENTRAL AND SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE

International Journal of Climatology, 1996
Changes in maximum and minimum daily temperatures (TMAX and TMIN, respectively) in nine selected regions of central Europe and in Bulgaria during 1951-1990are investigated. Average series for central Europe are compiled and analyzed by linear trend analysis and the kernel smoothing.

Estimating Missing Daily Maximum and Minimum Temperatures

Journal of Climate and Applied Meteorology, 1983
Abstract Seven methods for estimating maximum and minimum temperatures were developed from the literature and other sources. These techniques include correlative and additive procedures based on the relationships between stations, as well as procedures based on within-station temperature relations.

SIMULATING MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM DAILY TEMPERATURE WITH THE NORMAL DISTRIBUTION

2001 Sacramento, CA July 29-August 1,2001, 2001
Weather simulation models (or weather generators) are often used to generate synthetic daily weather for use in studies of crop growth, water quality, water availability, soil erosion, climate change, etc. Synthetic weather sequences are needed when long-term measured data are not available, measured data contain missing records, or collection of ...

Patterns of daily maximum and minimum temperature data in Nigeria

Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics, 2000
¶The knowledge of the dependence pattern of daily weather variables, which tend to persist in time, is important in developing techniques for simulating weather data. The dependence of daily maximum and minimum temperatures is presented for 17 stations in the three main climatic zones (humid, sub-humid and semi-arid) of Nigeria.

Assessing statistical downscaling in Argentina: Daily maximum and minimum temperatures

International Journal of Climatology, 2022
AbstractEmpirical statistical downscaling (ESD) under the perfect prognosis approach was carried out to simulate daily maximum (Tx) and minimum temperatures (Tn) in 101 meteorological stations over the different climatic regions of Argentina. To this end, three ESD families were evaluated: analogs (AN), generalized linear models (GLM) and artificial ...

What are daily maximum and minimum temperatures in observed climatology?

International Journal of Climatology, 2008
Instrumental daily maximum and minimum temperatures are reported and archived from various surface thermometers along with different average algorithms in historical and current U.S. surface climate networks. An instrumental bias in daily maximum and minimum temperatures caused by surface temperature sensors due to the different sampling rates, average
