Virtually nothing is known about the role plant volatiles play in host-finding by Homoptera in the Suborder Auchenorrhyncha. In laboratory bioassays, we examined the influence of plant volatiles on orientation and postcontact behaviors of the leafhopper,Dalbulus maidis, and determined the relationship between visual and olfactory stimuli during host ...

Stochastic modeling of Dalbulus maidis, vector of maize diseases
Theoretical Population Biology, 2023We developed a simple linear stochastic model for Dalbulus maidis dependent exclusively on temperature, whose parameters were determined from published field and laboratory studies performed at different temperatures. This model takes into account the principal stages and events of the life cycle of this pest, which is vector of maize diseases.

AbstractVolatile organic compounds (VOCs) released by plants are generally involved in host recognition and host selection for many phytophagous insects. However, for leafhoppers and planthoppers, host recognition is mainly thought to involve a phototactic response, but it is not clear if a host plant could be selected based on the volatile cues it ...

The corn leafhopper, Dalbulus maidis (DeLong), is the most important leafhopper pest of maize, Zea mays, in the Americas. A survey of the diversity of its egg parasitoids was carried out in northwestern Argentina. During summer from 2004 to 2007, the samples were collected, using sentinel eggs of D.

Effectiveness and residual effects of seven insecticides, methomyl, carbaryl, malathion, diazinon, oxydemeton-methyl, acephate, and dimethoate, on Dalbulus maidis (DeLong and Wolcott) and Peregrinus maidis (Ashmead), the insect vectors of five tropical corn pathogens were determined by spray application on the upper surfaces of corn leaves.
