No effect of infant nursery rearing on laboratory rhesus monkey dams’ social behavior or long-term cortisol profiles

Applied Animal Behaviour Science
While the behavioral and physiological impacts of nursery rearing in laboratory-housed infant monkeys have been well characterized, to date no studies have examined the impact on nonhuman primate dams of their infants being removed for rearing in the nursery.

Effects of dam parity and rearing rank on the glucose and fat metabolism, and adrenal function of post-pubertal single and twin-ewe progeny

Animal Production Science, 2010
In an effort to increase the number of lambs produced per ewe’s productive lifetime in New Zealand, an increasing number of ewe lambs (8–9 months old) are being bred. This, in turn, results in an increased proportion of second-parity 2-year-old ewes in New Zealand’s breeding flock, rather than the more usual first-parity 2-year olds.

Nursing behavior in dam‐reared Russian saiga (Saiga tatarica tatarica) at the San Diego wild animal park

Zoo Biology, 1994
AbstractThis study was designed to examine the nursing patterns and related behavior of young saiga raised by their dams. Four captive born lambs were observed at weekly intervals during continuous 14 h watches for the first 7 weeks of life. One‐week‐old lambs were found to nurse at an average rate of 1.1 bouts per hour and nursed for an average of 14 ...

Milk substitute intake of artificially reared lambs during the first days of life as affected by time of removal from the dam and frequency of feeding

Animal Science, 1971
SUMMARYForty-eight Suffolk × Clun lambs were used in an experiment to investigate the effects of two times of removal from the dam and two feeding frequencies upon milk intake over the first 4 days on an artificial rearing system.Lambs removed at birth consumed significantly more milk replacer at feeding periods up to 32 hr after removal than lambs ...

Recirculating aquaculture system-reared juvenile walleye survived and grew after stocking in Owen Dam, South Dakota, USA

Global Journal of Fisheries Science
Recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) technology is increasingly used to produce fish in recreational and conservation fish hatcheries. However, little is known about the post-stocking survival of RAS-reared walleye (Sander vitreus). This study evaluated the survival and growth of RAS-reared walleye stocked in Owen Dam, South Dakota, USA.

Physicochemical characteristics of undrainable water dams utilized for fish rearing in the semi-arid Naromoru area, central Kenya

2015
Naromoru is a semiarid area in Central Kenya, occurring on the leeward side of Mt. Kenya. Its water sources include a few permanent rivers such as Nairobi River, intermittent streams and a large number of undrainable water reservoirs. Most of the undrainable water resources have been stocked with fish but their utilization for fish rearing has ...
