Scaling in Damage Accumulation

2009
A detailed analysis of damage accumulation in metal specimens under irradiation, tension, mechanical and thermal fatigue shows that it occurs in two stages, the first being dominated by defect accumulation and the second, by defect growth. The stages are characterized by different sensitivity of defects to material structure and different defect size ...

Damage Accumulation in Fibers

2002
The term damage accumulation is a means of addressing cumulative change in the fiber material (chemically and/or structurally) without necessarily implying that the change(s) is (are) detrimental to further processing of the fibers, or to their functioning as load-bearing components.

Stochastic Fatigue Damage Accumulation

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1984
A study is made of several aspects of the problem of predicting fatigue failure by using the Palmgren‐Miner (PM) approximation, with cycles defined by the rainflow procedure. The stress time history is considered to be a stationary stochastic process, and the term fatigue is considered to refer to crack initiation or crack propagation, or both.

Unconventional reflections on damage accumulation

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1976
Abstract Certain implications of Miner's rule are revealed a priori as leading to inaccurate and even contradictory results. This is due to incompatibility with basic physical laws. A part of these imperfections can be ruled out by a new method of accumulated damage calculation.

Damage accumulation of graded steel

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2010
Abstract The damage evolution of graded steel is studied. Specimens are taken out of a flange shaft having a graded microstructure resulting from thermo-mechanical forming process. Fatigue experiments are performed for the base material with a ferritic–pearlitic microstructure as well as for the nearly fully martensitic microstructure which is found ...

Accumulation of damage in GRP laminates

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1979
A study has been made of the accumulation of damage in GRP laminates during tensile loading. Changes in dynamic elastic properties resulting from microstructural damage events are related to the acoustic emission patterns recorded during deformation. The effects of laminate construction, loading geometry and exposure to water have also been examined ...

Damage Accumulation Techniques in Damage Tolerance Analysis

1984
Damage tolerance analysis requires the capability to assess the damage, usually measured by incremental crack growth, accumulating in a given piece of structure under flight-by-flight spectrum loading. This requirement implies the need to process this damage accumulation over thousands of flights consisting of millions of load cycles.

Reactive species and their accumulation on radical-damaged proteins

Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1993
Hydroperoxides and catechols are described as novel reactive products of radical attack on proteins. These species, like other components of oxidized and otherwise damaged proteins, may accumulate in some biological systems. We propose that the reactive species may then attack other biomolecules, and constitute both a marker and a mechanism of age ...

Analysis of Fatigue Damage Accumulation in TiAl Intermetallics

Key Engineering Materials, 2013
In this work, a Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy obtained with a additive manufacturing technique by electron beam melting (EBM) has been examined by conducting high cycle fatigue tests both with plain specimens and with specimens with artificially introduced defects with the objective of studying the growth behavior of small cracks.

Designing Scenarios of Damage Accumulation

2019
The problems arising in working out damage accumulation scenarios in performance based designing are considered. These include specifying the group of limiting states for the structure under consideration, specifying the design input for each limiting state, establishing the criterion of the limit state occurrence, methods of calculating the structure ...
