Damage indices and damage measures

Progress in Structural Engineering and Materials, 2000
This article reviews the ground motion parameters than can be assumed as structural and non-structural damage measures. Measures of seismic damage potential based on ground motion records are first described, followed by a discussion of the damage measures relating to simple (linear) and more complex (non-linear) structural responses.

Autonomous Indication of Mechanical Damage in Polymeric Coatings

Advanced Materials, 2016
High-resolution in situ autonomous visual indication of mechanical damage is achieved through a microcapsule-based polymeric material system. Upon mechanical damage, ruptured microcapsules release a liquid indicator molecule. A sharp color change from light yellow to bright red is triggered when the liberated indicator 2',7'-dichlorofluorescein reacts ...

A novel indicator of vibration damage in concrete

Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology, 2015
Open cracks in concrete contain crystals nucleated on the fracture walls, together with fragments of crystals and structures that resemble ooids that cannot have been derived from the host concrete. The fact that similar ooids, occurring in both marine and freshwater modern-day environments, typically form in response to oscillatory water movements ...

Disease assessment indices: activity, damage and severity

Baillière's Clinical Rheumatology, 1995
The methodology for developing and assessing disease status measures is now well-advanced. For some diseases, in particular SLE and RA, these methods have been applied and instruments either are being or have been validated. For other conditions, such as ankylosing spondylitis and Behçet's disease, there is still a need for reliable measures to be ...

Transmissibility as a Differential Indicator of Structural Damage

Journal of Vibration and Acoustics, 2002
This article discusses the use of frequency domain transmissibility functions for detecting, locating, and quantifying damage in linear and nonlinear structures. Structural damage affects both the system poles and zeros; however, zeros are much more sensitive than poles to localized damage. This is because zeros depend on the input and output locations

[Myoglobin as an indicator of stress damage].

Biulleten' eksperimental'noi biologii i meditsiny, 1994
The effects of single 1-hour immobilization stress exposure and of long-term (40 days) adaptation to intermittent high altitude hypoxia (in hypobaric chamber at "altitude" 4000 m, 4 hr, a day) on serum myoglobin content were studied in Wistar rats. It has been shown that such stress exposure induced the 2.5 fold increase in the serum myoglobin content.

Characterization of Delamination by Using Damage Indices

Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2005
A damage index based on in-plane modal strain is developed to characterize the dynamic behavior of laminated composite plates of arbitrary thickness with discrete multiple delaminations. A recently developed improved layerwise laminate theory is used to accurately describe the displacement field and capture the transverse shear effects for the ...

Lysozymuria as an Indication of Renal Tubular Damage.

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1964
Excerpt The urinary excretion of the enzyme lysozyme has been observed previously in some patients with renal disease, but the significance of lysozymuria has not been established.

Wavelet analysis and enhanced damage indicators

Smart Structures and Systems, 2007
Wavelet transforms are the emerging signal-processing tools for damage identification and time-frequency localization. A small perturbation in a static or dynamic displacement profile could be captured using multi-resolution technique of wavelet analysis. The paper presents the wavelet analysis of damaged linear structural elements using DB4 or BIOR6.8
