Biological Indicators for Radiation Damage
International Journal of Radiation Biology, 1991Methods for estimating radiation dose using biological indicators have made rapid progress during recent years. Chromosome analysis in lymphocytes still plays a central role, but it is no longer the only quantitative system in biological dosimetry. The best approach seems to be to combine several of the assays exploiting their specific advantages: the ...

Damage indices and damage measures
Progress in Structural Engineering and Materials, 2000This article reviews the ground motion parameters than can be assumed as structural and non-structural damage measures. Measures of seismic damage potential based on ground motion records are first described, followed by a discussion of the damage measures relating to simple (linear) and more complex (non-linear) structural responses.

Numerical calibration of damage indices
Advances in Engineering Software, 2014In this study a numerical calibration procedure is proposed; while its application in some of the most widely accepted damage indices (DIs) used for quantifying the extent of damage in reinforced concrete structures is presented. In particular, without loss of generality of the applicability of the proposed procedure, the Park and Ang local damage ...

Condition insensitive damage indicator for brittle rock
International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1997Abstract The authors have been seeking a ‘condition insensitive damage indicator’ for brittle rock. It is defined here as a measurable physical quantity and has a certain value at the peak load. It should be insensitive to experimental conditions such as confining pressure, loading rate, water content etc.

Damage control surgery: old concepts and new indications
Current Opinion in Critical Care, 2023Purpose of review While the principles of damage control surgery - rapid hemorrhage and contamination control with correction of physiologic derangements followed by delayed definitive reconstruction - have remained consistent, forms of damage control intervention have evolved and proliferated dramatically.

Thermo-indicating paint for damage warning
Journal of Thermal Analysis, 1996Thermal analysis coupled with the measurement of temperatures at which colour changes are observed in situ was used to test various inorganic pigments with the aim of introducing them into the compositions of thermo-indicating paints. Through a reversible or irreversible modification of the colour these can indicate an undesired increase in temperature
