Disease assessment indices: activity, damage and severity
Baillière's Clinical Rheumatology, 1995The methodology for developing and assessing disease status measures is now well-advanced. For some diseases, in particular SLE and RA, these methods have been applied and instruments either are being or have been validated. For other conditions, such as ankylosing spondylitis and Behçet's disease, there is still a need for reliable measures to be ...

Wavelet analysis and enhanced damage indicators
Smart Structures and Systems, 2007Wavelet transforms are the emerging signal-processing tools for damage identification and time-frequency localization. A small perturbation in a static or dynamic displacement profile could be captured using multi-resolution technique of wavelet analysis. The paper presents the wavelet analysis of damaged linear structural elements using DB4 or BIOR6.8

Biochemical indicators of ischaemic brain damage
1991Laboratory methods such as lactate and pyruvate measurements and various serum enzyme tests have been in routine clinical use to reveal acute ischaemic injury of the heart or the skeletal muscle. The same enzymes, such as aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT), lactate dehydrogenase (LD) and creatine kinase (CK), occur abundantly also in the brain, and ...

Autonomous Indication of Mechanical Damage in Polymeric Coatings
Advanced Materials, 2016High-resolution in situ autonomous visual indication of mechanical damage is achieved through a microcapsule-based polymeric material system. Upon mechanical damage, ruptured microcapsules release a liquid indicator molecule. A sharp color change from light yellow to bright red is triggered when the liberated indicator 2',7'-dichlorofluorescein reacts ...

Cosine based and extended transmissibility damage indicators for structural damage detection
Engineering Structures, 2017Abstract Structural damage detection using vibration-based techniques and transmissibility is investigated and proposed with elaborating the mathematical interrelationship between modal assurance criterion (MAC) and cosine similarity measure. From this interrelationship, two new damage indicators, namely cosine based indicator (CI) and extended ...

Detection of seismic structural damage using parameter-based global damage indices
Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics, 1990The problem of detecting the onset of seismic structural damage is considered. A structure exhibits a nonlinear behaviour when it experiences an earthquake. Nonetheless a time variant equivalent structure can be defined. A global damage index can be defined from the vibrational parameters of the equivalent linear structure considered.

Damages indicators for post-earthquake condition assessment
Acta Geodaetica et Geophysica, 2013After an earthquake, the condition of industrial systems, structures and equipment, especially at nuclear power plants has to be assessed since this information is needed for accident management and for the decision on the continuation of the operation.

Biomarkers: Monoclonal Protein and Indicators of Cardiac Damage
Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is a group of systemic disorders characterized by the deposition of abnormal protein fibrils in the heart, leading to progressive heart failure (HF) and poor prognosis. Early detection, accurate diagnosis, and effective risk stratification are critical for guiding treatment decisions and improving patient outcomes.Castiglione V +5 more

Trauma Laparotomy: Indications, Priorities, and Damage Control
2010Ten to fifteen percent of all trauma patients admitted to hospital have life-threatening injuries, defined by an injury severity score (ISS) of more than 15. Most of these patients have extensive injuries that involve a number of organ systems. Injuries that cause destruction and deformity are easily recognized, while occult, life-threatening injuries ...
