X-ray microtomographic characterization and quantification of the strain rate dependent failure mechanism in cenosphere epoxy syntactic foams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This work investigates the failure mechanism in cenosphere epoxy syntactic foams at the quasi-static and dynamic strain rates. Split-Hopkinson pressure bar experiments are controlled to stop dynamic deformation of the foams at various strain stages.

Nonlocal Damage Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yesRevue Européenne de Génie Civil, 2020
ABSTRACT This paper starts with an overview of models that can provide an objective description of highly localized inelastic deformation. Basic ideas behind the integral and differential formulations of nonlocal models are explained using a simple isotropic damage model as a typical example.

Mechanisms of Biliary Damage

open access: yesJournal of Cell Death, 2010
Bile duct damage is present in virtually all cholangiopathies, which share the biliary epithelial cells (i.e. cholangiocytes) as a common pathogenic target. Cholangiocyte cell death largely occurs through the process of apoptosis. In this review, we will summarize the mechanisms through which biliary damage occurs in a variety of animal and in vitro ...

Acoustic Emission and Digital Image Correlation-Based Study for Early Damage Identification in Sandwich Structures

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Understanding the deterioration and predominant damage mechanisms of structures is highly relevant, especially for safety-critical components. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) plays a crucial role in assessing and monitoring their integrity by evaluating ...

Data-Driven Diagnostics of Mechanism and Source of Sustained Oscillations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Sustained oscillations observed in power systems can damage equipment, degrade the power quality and increase the risks of cascading blackouts. There are several mechanisms that can give rise to oscillations, each requiring different countermeasure to ...

Incidence and Risk Factors of Serious Osteonecrosis in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A CYP‐C Population‐Based Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Osteonecrosis (ON) is a debilitating complication of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) therapy. While numerous studies have explored its incidence and associated risk factors, investigations using large‐scale cohorts remain important to characterize ON across heterogeneous populations.
