Damages In Investor-State Arbitration

2008
The obligation of a State party to pay compensation or damages to a foreign investor may be based on any number of legal grounds. Investment treaties may contain express standards of compensation for certain defined situations. This chapter focuses on customary international law standards of damages due for unlawful actions by States-be they unlawful ...

Early Damage Stress State MMM Testing

Nondestructive Evaluation Engineering, 2005
The stress state testing and evaluation is the major concern in early damage testing. The metal magnetic memory (MMM) testing, based on ferromagnetic theory, is a new NDE technology that can find the most serious stress concentration zones, microscopic defect, etc. However, there is no quantitative analysis standard in engineering practice.

Yield Functions, Damage States, and Intrinsic Strength

Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids, 2000
A recently derived isotropic yield/failure criterion is here shown to give a measure of the state of the damage relative to an intrinsic (ideal) yield strength. The formulation of the intrinsic strength itself is obtained through a spectral analysis.

Damage control surgery: current state and future directions

Current Opinion in Critical Care, 2017
Purpose of review Damage control surgery (DCS) represents a staged surgical approach to the treatment of critically injured trauma patients. Originally described in the context of hepatic trauma and postinjury-induced coagulopathy, the indications for DCS have expanded to the management of extra abdominal trauma and to the ...

Computed tomography informed composite damage state model generation

Journal of Composite Materials, 2017
X-ray computed tomography has recently become an increasingly popular non-destructive imaging method in composites research. However, due to the complexity of 3D computed tomography data sets, it can be difficult to accurately and quantitatively assess the damage state of a composite structure without additional post-processing.

Damage identification through the comparison with pseudo-baseline data at damaged state

Engineering with Computers, 2015
Without baseline information prior to damage, the damage should be detected by only measured data. Most non-baseline damage detection methods can be sensitive to the external noise and have difficulty in detecting damage when the sensor is not close to it.

State Responsibility for Climate Change Damages

Nordic Journal of International Law, 2008
AbstractThe Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) outlined in its Fourth Assessment Report (2007) various consequences of continuing greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. The effects include the loss of land and property, health and ecological damages, threats to human security and potential human casualties.
