Evolution of the Damping Ratio Considering Cyclic Confining Pressure Under Intermittent Cyclic Loading

open access: yesBuildings
The damping ratio is essential to conducting dynamic analysis for underground engineering under traffic loading. Variations in the damping ratio are usually studied using cyclic triaxial tests with continuous cyclic loading; however, intermittent loading

Chiral damping, chiral gyromagnetism and current-induced torques in textured one-dimensional Rashba ferromagnets

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate Gilbert damping, spectroscopic gyromagnetic ratio and current-induced torques in the one-dimensional Rashba model with an additional noncollinear magnetic exchange field.

Numerical and Experimental Study on Dummy Blade with Underplatform Damper

open access: yesMachines
To confirm the variation in damping ratio offered by dry friction dampers against structural vibration stress, this study developed a blade vibration response test system for capturing damping characteristic curves through both frequency sweep excitation

Development of excitation test method for non-synchronous vibration of rotating turbine blade (Measurement of damping of non-synchronous vibration mode)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
In order to analyze the blade vibration caused by flutter, it is necessary to understand both the aerodynamic damping and structural damping of the high vibration stress. Flutter Vibration mode occurring in the rated speed is non-synchronous mode.

Bridge Damping Extraction Method from Vehicle–Bridge Interaction System Using Double-Beam Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
When vehicles interact with a bridge, a vehicle–bridge interaction (VBI) system is created. The frequency and modal shape of VBI systems have been widely studied, but the damping of VBI systems has not been adequately investigated.

Errors in Estimating Modal Damping Ratio.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series C, 1995
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of measurement errors on the modal damping ratio. Errors in estimating modal damping ratio are derived for various curve-fitting methods. For the iterative method, errors in estimating modal damping ratio are induced by bias errors in the frequency response function.

Fractional robust control of ligthly damped systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The article proposes a method to design a robust controller ensuring the damping ratio of a closed-loop control. The method uses a contour para-meterized by the damping ratio in the Nichols plane and the complex non-integer (or fractional)differentiation

Comparison Between Damping Coefficients of Measured Perforated Micromechanical Test Structures and Compact Models

open access: yes, 2008
Measured damping coefficients of six different perforated micromechanical test structures are compared with damping coefficients given by published compact models.

First-principles study of magnetization relaxation enhancement and spin-transfer in thin magnetic films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The interface-induced magnetization damping of thin ferromagnetic films in contact with normal-metal layers is calculated from first principles for clean and disordered Fe/Au and Co/Cu interfaces.

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.
