Propagation of Pore Pressure and Stress in Saturated Porous Media Based on a Darcy-Brinkman Formulation

open access: yesGeofluids, 2021
Propagation of pore pressure and stress in water-saturated elastic porous media is theoretically investigated when considering the Darcy-Brinkman law. The wave mode, phase velocity, phase lag, damping factor, and characteristic frequency are found from ...

Research on the Flutter Stability of Bridge Sections Based on an Empirical Formula of an Aerostatic Three-Component Coefficient

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
In order to study the relationship between an aerostatic three-component coefficient (ATCC) and bridge flutter and to quickly evaluate the flutter performance of bridges, we proposed a method based on the empirical formula of the ATCC.

Existence for a nonlinear wave equation with damping and source terms

open access: yesDifferential and Integral Equations, 2003
The paper deals with the Cauchy problem to the equation \(u_{tt}(t,x)-\triangle u(t,x)+Q(t,x,u_t)=f(x,u)\) with compactly supported initial data. The uniqueness and regularity of a solution are proved. The authors use Orlicz spaces and ingenious estimates, to obtain the results for a broad range of powers of the nonlinearities \(Q,f\).

New Conditions for Testing the Oscillation of Solutions of Second-Order Nonlinear Differential Equations with Damped Term

open access: yesAxioms
This paper deals with the oscillatory behavior of solutions of a new class of second-order nonlinear differential equations. In contrast to most of the previous results in the literature, we establish some new criteria that guarantee the oscillation of ...

Unconditional energy conservation and conditional regularity for the incompressible Navier-Stokes Maxwell system

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations
In this paper, we study a hydrodynamic system modeling the evolution of a plasma subject to a self-induced electromagnetic Lorentz force in incompressible viscous fluids. The system consists of the Navier–Stokes equations coupled with a Maxwell equation.

Determining damping terms in fractional wave equations

open access: yesInverse Problems, 2022
Abstract This paper deals with the inverse problem of recovering an arbitrary number of fractional damping terms in a wave equation. We develop several approaches on uniqueness and reconstruction, some of them relying on Tauberian theorems that provide relations between the asymptotic behaviour of solutions in time and Laplace domains ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

On the Oscillatory Behavior of Solutions of Second-Order Non-Linear Differential Equations with Damping Term

open access: yesMathematics
In this paper, we discuss the oscillatory behavior of solutions of two general classes of nonlinear second-order differential equations. New criteria are obtained using Riccati transformations and the integral averaging techniques.

Rogue waves and downshifting in the presence of damping [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2011
Recently Gramstad and Trulsen derived a new higher order nonlinear Schrödinger (HONLS) equation which is Hamiltonian (Gramstad and Trulsen, 2011). We investigate the effects of dissipation on the development of rogue waves and downshifting by adding an ...

Kirchhoff systems with nonlinear source and boundary damping terms

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Analysis, 2010
In this paper we treat the question of the non--existence of global solutions, or their long time behavior, of nonlinear hyperbolic Kirchhoff systems. The main $p$--Kirchhoff operator may be affected by a perturbation which behaves like $|u|^{p-2} u$ and the systems also involve an external force $f$ and a nonlinear boundary damping $Q$. When $p=2$
