The conservatism of prairie pollinators according to experts and empiricism

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
We derived ecological conservatism values for prairie pollinators using expert opinion and analysis of remnant fidelity. Expert values were potentially biased and struggled to differentiate between remnant and non‐remnant prairie sites Empirical values showed advantages for pollinator‐based site assessment and prioritization in prairie regions ...

Occurrence of Interspecific Mating between Two Species of Danaus Kluk, 1780 (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae) in Nature

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, 2018
Mating across species occurs rarely in nature, which contends prevalent idea of biological species concept. Throughout species range, mating pattern varies and reproductive barriers are also not fixed among different species. In this study, two instances

Climate Change May Alter Breeding Ground Distributions of Eastern Migratory Monarchs (Danaus plexippus) via Range Expansion of Asclepias Host Plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Climate change can profoundly alter species\u27 distributions due to changes in temperature, precipitation, or seasonality. Migratory monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus) may be particularly susceptible to climate-driven changes in host plant abundance

Whole genome shotgun phylogenomics resolve the diving beetle tree of life

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, EarlyView.
A new and strongly supported phylogeny of diving beetles (Dytiscidae) is presented using the largest genomic dataset to date. Laccophilinae and Coptotominae + Lancetinae are early diverging lineages excluded from a large monophyletic clade comprising the remaining eight subfamilies. We identify seven remaining problems in the backbone of the phylogeny,

Functional Profiles of Phyllosphere and Rhizosphere Metagenomes Differ Across Milkweed Species

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 4, August 2025.
We characterised milkweed microbiomes using a metagenomics approach to investigate the functional potential of endophytic phyllosphere and rhizosphere communities. We found evidence that the composition of potential PSM genes varied across milkweeds in spp. specific responses, for both phyllospheres and rhizospheres, and in response to monarch feeding.

Consequences of toxic secondary compounds in nectar for mutualist bees and antagonist butterflies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Attraction of mutualists and defense against antagonists are critical challenges for most organisms and can be especially acute for plants with pollinating and non?pollinating flower visitors.

Setting goals for pollinator gardens

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 4, August 2025.
Abstract In recent years, declines in animal pollinators have stimulated tremendous interest in pollinator‐friendly gardening. There is a widespread notion that pollinator gardens are beneficial, but the specific capacity of pollinator gardens to improve biodiversity conservation and societal well‐being remains unclear.

MENGENAL IKAN-IKAN DANAU SENTANI

open access: yesJURNAL PENGABDIAN PAPUA, 2019
Lake Sentani is the biggest lowland lake in Papua and the biggest freshwater fish source in Jayapura. The lake has highest endemism and one of freshwater ecosystem conservation priorities in Papua. Lake organisms consist of water plants, mollusks, crustacea and fish. In Lake Sentani, there are 19 species of fish including endemic, native and anadromous
