The role of cardiac acoustic biomarkers in monitoring patients with heart failure: A systematic literature review

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 980-997, April 2025.
Abstract Heart failure (HF) creates a considerable clinical, humanistic and economic burden on patients and caregivers as well as on healthcare systems. To attenuate the significant burden of HF, there is a need for enhanced management of patients with HF.

Mouse d-Amino-Acid Oxidase: Distribution and Physiological Substrates

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2017
d-Amino-acid oxidase (DAO) catalyzes the oxidative deamination of d-amino acids. DAO is present in a wide variety of organisms and has important roles. Here, we review the distribution and physiological substrates of mouse DAO.

Beyond the Classroom: Cognitive and Educational Insights Into Gameplay‐Based Second Language Learning

open access: yesFuture in Educational Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This pilot study investigated how the narrative‐rich Chinese AAA game Black Myth: Wukong supports advanced Mandarin learners. Using reflective journals, semi‐structured interviews, and exploratory electroencephalogram (EEG), we examined learners' cognitive, affective, and cultural experiences.

Spectral Type and Radial Velocity Variations in Three SRC Variables

open access: yes, 2010
SRC variables are M supergiants, precursors to Type II supernovae, that vary in brightness with moderately regular periods of order 100-1000 days. Although identified as pulsating stars that obey their own period-luminosity relation, few have been ...

Beyond Gut Modulation: A Critical Review of the Therapeutic Potential, Safety, and Clinical Prospects of Natural Polysaccharides for IBD

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
In this review, we critically summarized the application of natural polysaccharides (NPs) for the treatment of IBD. This approach combines, in a unique way (right), the basic structure–activity relationships of NPs from different origins (left) with their multipronged mode of action, which involves modulation of the gut microbiota and other ...

Activity of D-amino acid oxidase is widespread in the human central nervous system

open access: yesFrontiers in Synaptic Neuroscience, 2014
It has been proposed that D-amino acid oxidase (DAO) plays an essential role in degrading D-serine, an endogenous coagonist of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) glutamate receptors.

Asymmetric Charge Redistribution at the Tri‐Functional Cu1–Ru/CeOx Interface Enables Alkaline Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Materials, EarlyView.
A tri‐functional Cu1–Ru/CeOx catalyst with asymmetric charge distribution enables record‐high alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance. Ce3+–Ov sites in ceria enhance water activation and dissociation, while electron‐rich Ru atoms promote HO* adsorption and HO− desorption, and electron‐deficient Cu1 facilitates H2 evolution.

Systemic and Local Adiposity in the Bone Marrow Microenvironment Associated With Improved Prognosis in Hodgkin Lymphoma: Imaging and Molecular Analysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Schematic overview of systemic and bone marrow‐specific adiposity in Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL). Body Mass Index was associated with bone marrow (BM) involvement, relapse, and mortality (1). In contrast, increased yellow marrow density was associated with poorer prognosis (2).

Spectropolarimetry with the DAO 1.8-m telescope

open access: yes, 2011
The fast-switching DAO spectropolarimeter mounted on the 1.8-m Plaskett telescope started operation in 2007. Almost 14,000 medium-resolution (R=15,000) polarimetric spectra of 65 O - F type stars have been obtained since then in the course of three ...
