Reproducibility of short-term and reproduction toxicity experiments with Daphnia magna and comparison of the sensitivity of Daphnia magna with Daphnia pulex and Daphnia cucullata in short-term experiments

Hydrobiologia, 1978
Short-term toxicity tests with Daphnia magna are reasonably reproducible. The sensitivity of Daphnia pulex, Daphnia cucullata and Daphnia magna proved to be about the same in short-term tests with 15 different chemical compounds.

Morphology of the Daphnia nervous system: A comparative study on Daphnia pulex, Daphnia lumholtzi, and Daphnia longicephala

Journal of Morphology, 2012
AbstractThe freshwater crustacean Daphnia is well known for its phenotypic plasticity, in which environmental cues are perceived by the nervous system and transformed into phenotypic adaptations beneficial under current conditions. Critical knowledge regarding the distribution and localization of neuronal antigens or neurotransmitters and ...

Functions of haemoglobin in Daphnia

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B - Biological Sciences, 1950
Abstract In Daphnia a manifold increase in the haemoglobin content of the blood is known to result from oxygen deficiency in the water; pale animals become red. The functions of this additional haemoglobin have now been studied experimentally.

The evolutionary ecology of Daphnia

1994
In order to generate genetic markers from both nuclear and mitochondrial DNA, we used three PCR-based techniques (RAPD, mtDNA-RFLPs, and sequencing of an amplified mtDNA fragment) to illuminate various aspects of the population genetics of large-lake Daphnia species.

Daphnia Tests

2009
The proposed test strategy combined the direct and indirect approaches, integrating organisms representing the terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. For the latter, several tests were selected; the Daphnia magna mobility test, the algal growth inhibition test and the inhibition of light emission of Vibrio fischeri were considered as a basic test set ...

Effect of Antihistamines on Daphnia

Nature, 1948
Daphnia pulex reacts under ultra-violet radiation (wave-lengths less than 4000 A.) with negative phototaxis. In man the influence of the same wave-lengths is connected with release of histamine from damaged cells1. Successful therapy with antihistamine in cases of human hypersensitivity to sunlight is therefore not surprising2.
