PSEUDOLEUKEMIA AND DAPSONE

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1968
Excerpt To the Editor:The paper of Levine and Weintraub (Ann. Intern. Med. 68: 1060, 1968), "Pseudoleukemia During Recovery From Dapsone-Induced Agranulocytosis," was of special interest to us at U...

DAPSONE AND SULFAPYRIDINE

Dermatologic Clinics, 2001
Dapsone and sulfapyridine are structurally related compounds with anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory effects. Dapsone remains the most important drug for leprosy and is useful in the prophylaxis of Pneumocystis pneumonia in patients with HIV disease.

The Dapsone Syndrome

Archives of Dermatology, 1982
Short Reportsusually concern a single case report. Text must be typewritten, double-spaced, with not more than six references, and should not exceed 600 words. If tables or figures are elements of the manuscript, please limit text length to 400 words with a total of either three figures or tables, or a combination of both.

Dapsone Metabolism in Patients with Dapsone-Resistant Leprosy

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1975
Abstract Acetylation of dapsone (DDS) and sulfamethazine (SMZ), and plasma clearance of DDS were studied in Malaysian Chinese with lepromatous leprosy including 40 DDS-resistant and 44 non-resistant patients. Neither a patient's acetylation characteristics (DDS or SMZ), nor his plasma clearance rate, appeared to have predisposed him to the development ...

A case of the 'dapsone syndrome'

Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, 1994
The 'dapsone syndrome' developed in a 44-year-old woman who was treated for pyoderma gangrenosum with 100 mg/day dapsone for about 5 weeks. Symptoms included fever, malaise, jaundice with hepatic dysfunction, lymphadenopathy, mononucleosis and dermatitis. These symptoms disappeared with 30 mg/day of oral prednisolone. A lymphocyte stimulation test with

Pharmacokinetics of dapsone and amino acid prodrugs of dapsone.

Drug Metabolism and Disposition, 1994
Amino acid amides of dapsone (DDS), a primary aromatic amine, have been synthesized as water-soluble, chemically stable prodrugs that target peptidase enzymes for cleavage to the parent drug in vivo. The pharmacokinetics of DDS, monoacetyldapsone (MADDS; a known metabolite), and various L- and D-amino acid derivatives of DDS were investigated in New ...

Contaminants in Commercial Dapsone

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1977
Three contaminants commonly found in commercial dapsone were identified as 2,4'-sulfonylbis(benzeneamine), 4-(phenylsulfonyl)benzeneamine, and 4-(4'-chlorophenylsulfonyl)benzeneamine. The identities were based on the spectral analysis and unambiguous synthesis of each compound.

Dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 1996
We describe a 22-year-old woman with cutaneous polyarteritis nodosa in whom dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome (DHS) developed 5 weeks after initiation of dapsone therapy. She had fever and cervical lymphadenopathy, and later a widespread erythematous eruption studded with pustules developed.

Innovative Use of Dapsone

Dermatologic Clinics, 2010
After synthesis of dapsone (4,4' diaminodiphenylsulfone) in 1908, the compound was known exclusively in chemistry. Following the epoch-making discovery of the antimicrobial potential for sulfonamides emerged, the sulfone class was included in the medical armamentarium.
