Millimeter-wave CO and SiO Observations toward the Broad-velocity-width Molecular Feature CO 16.134–0.553: A Smith Cloud Scenario?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report the results of the CO J = 1–0 and SiO J = 2–1 mapping observations toward the broad-velocity-width molecular feature (BVF) CO 16.134–0.553 with the Nobeyama Radio Observatory 45 m telescope.

Structure Identification of CO Monolayer on Ag(111) Using Atomic Force Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 12, Issue 10, May 19, 2025.
Physisorption systems of CO molecules on metal surfaces have long been studied. Nondestructive analysis of weakly adsorbed systems on surfaces still remains a challenging task. In this study, the structure of the CO monolayer is successfully determined by directly visualizing individual CO molecules using atomic force microscopy (AFM).

Multi‐isotope (N, O, Ti, and Cr) study of C1 and CM‐like clasts—Probing unsampled C1 material

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 60, Issue 5, Page 1073-1094, May 2025.
Abstract A multi‐element isotope (N, O, Ti, and Cr) study was conducted on C1 and CM‐like clasts hosted in achondrites and chondrite breccias to understand the genesis of these chondritic clasts. The mineralogy, O, and N isotopes confirm that CM‐like clasts in howardites and polymict eucrites closely resemble CM chondrite‐like material.

The ALMA-QUARKS Survey: Detection of Two Extremely Dense Substructures in a Massive Prestellar Core

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Only a handful of massive starless core candidates have been discovered so far, but none of them have been fully confirmed. Within the MM1 clump in the filamentary infrared dark cloud G34.43+0.24 that was covered by the Atacama Large Millimeter ...

Star formation in infrared dark clouds: Self-gravity and dynamics

open access: yes, 2016
The role played by gravity in the transfer of interstellar matter from molecular cloud scales to protostellar scales is still highly debated. Only detailed studies on the kinematics of large samples of star-forming clouds will settle the issue.

Preimpact Detection of Chelyabinsk‐Type Objects in the Thermal Infrared: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The Chelyabinsk meteor entered Earth’s atmosphere on 15 February 2013, producing a shock wave that injured about 1500 people and damaged thousands of buildings. Despite its relatively large size (∼20 m), the progenitor asteroid approached Earth undetected. Its apparent radiant was too close to the Sun for standard ground‐based near‐Earth asteroid (NEA)

Phenyl Radical Activates Molecular Hydrogen Through Protium and Deuterium Tunneling

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 63, Issue 51, December 16, 2024.
Activating the strong H2 bond is typically reserved for transition metals, and only a few main group systems can tackle this challenge. Here, we explore a phenyl radical mediated pathway utilizing the photolysis of iodobenzene. The phenyl radical leverages the high C−H bond energy of the forming benzene to drive H2 activation.

On the Existence, Rareness, and Uniqueness of Quenched H i-rich Galaxies in the Local Universe

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Using data from ALFALFA, xGASS, H i -MaNGA, and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), we identify a sample of 47 “red but H i -rich” (RR) galaxies with near-UV (NUV) − r > 5 and unusually high H i -to-stellar mass ratios. We compare the optical properties
