The DARPA Twitter Bot Challenge [PDF]

open access: yesComputer, 2016
A number of organizations ranging from terrorist groups such as ISIS to politicians and nation states reportedly conduct explicit campaigns to influence opinion on social media, posing a risk to democratic processes. There is thus a growing need to identify and eliminate "influence bots" - realistic, automated identities that illicitly shape discussion

Numerical Investigation of Tip Vortex Cavitation Inception and Noise of Underwater Propellers of Submarine Using Sequential Eulerian–Lagrangian Approaches

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
In this study, the high-fidelity numerical methods are developed to investigate the tip vortex cavitation (TVC) inception and noise of underwater propellers, namely, Model-A and Model-B, which are designed to investigate the effects of sweep angle on ...

Scalable Laser Processing Enables Transparent, Accretion Scale‐Independent, Ice‐Shedding Glass

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a scalable laser‐based method to create wave‐like micro‐patterns on glass surfaces that counter the conventional view that roughness increases ice adhesion. These patterns direct crack propagation at the ice–glass interface, enabling low‐force, multi‐directional ice detachment while maintaining substrate transparency. A theoretical model

Magnetoelectric Nanoparticle‐Based Wireless Brain–Computer Interface: Underlying Physics and Projected Technology Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetoelectric nanoparticles (MENPs) enable fully wireless, minutely invasive neuromodulation, and potentially neural recording, by converting magnetic into electric and, conversely, electric into magnetic fields, respectively, at high spatiotemporal resolution.

Are carfentanil and acrylfentanyl naloxone resistant?

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry
The rapid rise in deaths since 2012 due to opioid poisoning is correlated with the proliferation of potent synthetic opioid agonists such as fentanyl, acrylfentanyl, and carfentanil.

DeepMapper: Attention‐Based AutoEncoder for System Identification in Wound Healing and Stage Prediction

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
The authors develop a deep learning model for real‐time tracking of wound progression. The deep learning framework maps the nonlinear evolution of a time series of images to a latent space, where they learn a linear representation of the dynamics. The linear model is interpretable and suitable for applications in feedback control.
