Symbol detection in online handwritten graphics using Faster R-CNN

open access: yes, 2017
Symbol detection techniques in online handwritten graphics (e.g. diagrams and mathematical expressions) consist of methods specifically designed for a single graphic type. In this work, we evaluate the Faster R-CNN object detection algorithm as a general

Signal propagation from portable active seismic source (PASS) to km‐scale borehole DAS for continuous monitoring of CO2 storage site

open access: yesGreenhouse Gases: Science and Technology, Volume 14, Issue 1, Page 4-10, February 2024.
Abstract We have developed a portable active seismic source (PASS) to monitor CO2 storage reservoirs at a depth of approximately 1 km. Despite its small size, stacking the signals generated by the PASS improves the signal‐to‐noise ratio of the seismometer data far from the source.

Handwriting Recognition of Historical Documents with few labeled data

open access: yes, 2018
Historical documents present many challenges for offline handwriting recognition systems, among them, the segmentation and labeling steps. Carefully annotated textlines are needed to train an HTR system.

Sensing Optical Fibers for Earthquake Source Characterization Using Raw DAS Records

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 129, Issue 1, January 2024.
Abstract Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) is becoming a powerful tool for earthquake monitoring, providing continuous strain‐rate records of seismic events along fiber optic cables. However, the use of standard seismological techniques for earthquake source characterization requires the conversion of data in ground motion quantities. In this study we

Posterior fossa gangliocytoma with facial nerve invasion: case report [PDF]

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 2003
A 5 year-old boy with a cerebellar gangliocytoma with a peripheral right facial paresis and ataxia is presented. His MRI showed a heterogenous, diffuse lesion, isointense on T1 and hyperintense on T2-weigthed sequences, involving the right cerebellar ...

A parábola da Universidade: da disciplina da obediência à codificação da liberdade [PDF]

open access: yesREVISTA DE CIÊNCIAS DA EDUCAÇÃO, 2015
In the analysis of the transformative parable that has concerned the university, from the medieval foundation until now, and focused on the central events that have most determined them, i.e., the cultural and social-political changes that started with the rise of modernity (XVI century), have emerged with the spread of the Enlightenment and were ...

Effect of Random Parameter Switching on Commensurate Fractional Order Chaotic Systems

open access: yes, 2016
The paper explores the effect of random parameter switching in a fractional order (FO) unified chaotic system which captures the dynamics of three popular sub-classes of chaotic systems i.e. Lorenz, Lu and Chen's family of attractors.
