Cabassous chacoensis (Chacoan naked-tailed armadillo) is a little-studied, primarily fossorial armadillo endemic to xeric parts of the Gran Chaco in western Paraguay and northern Argentina. C. chacoensis is listed as “Near Threatened” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.

Armadillos are relictual mammals important as models for biomedical studies. They contain adaptative and primitive characteristics in both anatomical and physiological aspects. In this study we describe the splenic histology and cytology of the "mulita," Dasypus hybridus. Organ samples were processed for light and electron microscopy study.
