Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...

Targeting TNBC: core–shell polycationic polyurea dendrimers with inherent anticancer activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Core–shell polycationic PURE dendrimers were tested in TNBC‐derived tumor models. Both formulations selectively targeted TNBC and effectively reduced tumor volume. PUREG4‐OEI48 suppressed tumor growth without detectable toxicity, whereas PUREG4‐OCEI24, despite showing efficacy, induced hepatic toxicity.

Big Data Application

2013
New electricity metering devices operating within the distribution networks originate data flows. Metering data are created at remote locations and processed somewhere else. The term “Data” denotes a substance, almost all useful data are “given” to us either by nature, as a reward for careful observation of physical processes, or by other people ...

Field Applicability of MASW Data

Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems 2008, 2008
One-dimensional multi-spectral analyses of surface waves (MASW) are used to predict subsurface shear-wave interval velocities. Shear wave velocities can also extract additional velocity-related information such as mechanical properties of soils and rocks.

Data Mining Applications

1996
With the increased use of computers, there is an ever-increasing volume of data being generated and stored. The sheer volume held in corporate databases is already too large for manual analysis and, as they grow, the problem is compounded. Furthermore, in many companies data is held only as a record or archive.
