Compression of GNSS Data with the Aim of Speeding up Communication to Autonomous Vehicles

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
Autonomous vehicles contain many sensors, enabling them to drive by themselves. Autonomous vehicles need to communicate with other vehicles (V2V) wirelessly and with infrastructures (V2I) like satellites with diverse connections as well, to implement ...

Sketch distance-based clustering of chromosomes for large genome database compression

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2019
Background The rapid development of Next-Generation Sequencing technologies enables sequencing genomes with low cost. The dramatically increasing amount of sequencing data raised crucial needs for efficient compression algorithms.

Applications of Non-Uniquely Decodable Codes to Privacy-Preserving High-Entropy Data Representation

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2019
Non-uniquely-decodable (non-UD) codes can be defined as the codes that cannot be uniquely decoded without additional disambiguation information. These are mainly the class of non–prefix–free codes, where a code-word can be a prefix of other(s)

Deep Learning-Based Super-Resolution Reconstruction and Algorithm Acceleration of Mars Hyperspectral CRISM Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
In Mars exploration, hyper-spectrometry plays an important role due to its high spectral resolution. However, due to the technical difficulty and the data size, the spatial resolution or the coverage of hyperspectral data is often limited.

Dither and data compression

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 1997
This correspondence presents entropy analyses for dithered and undithered quantized sources. Two methods are discussed that reduce the increase in entropy caused by the dither. The first method supplies the dither to the lossless encoding-decoding scheme. It is argued that this increases the complexity of the encoding-decoding scheme.

Image data compression [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Digital Imaging, 1997
The tutorial will expand on all of the topics outlined above and will provide additional information on other compression techniques. The practical implications of data compression and the important considerations in choosing a compression scheme will also be discussed.

Distributed Compression of Graphical Data [PDF]

open access: yes2018 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2018
In contrast to time series, graphical data is data indexed by the vertices and edges of a graph. Modern applications such as the internet, social networks, genomics and proteomics generate graphical data, often at large scale. The large scale argues for the need to compress such data for storage and subsequent processing.

Maxwell's demon and data compression [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2011
In an asymmetric Szilard engine model of Maxwell's demon, we show the equivalence between information theoretical and thermodynamic entropies when the demon erases information optimally. The work gain by the engine can be exactly canceled out by the work necessary to reset demon's memory after optimal data compression a la Shannon before the erasure.
