NASTRAN implementation of an isoparametric doubly-curved quadrilateral shell element [PDF]

open access: yes
A quadrilateral shell element, CQUAD4, was added to level 15.5 and subsequently to level 16.0 of NASTRAN. The element exhibited doubly curved surfaces and used biquadratic interpolation functions.

Examples of finite element mesh generation using SDRC IDEAS [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
IDEAS (Integrated Design Engineering Analysis Software) offers a comprehensive package for mechanical design engineers. Due to its multifaceted capabilities, however, it can be manipulated to serve the needs of electrical engineers, also.

ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.

Soft X-ray detection with the Fairchild 100 by 100 CCD [PDF]

open access: yes
The soft X-ray sensitivity of the Fairchild 100 x 100 element CCD is studied for possible use as a detector in plasma physics research. The experimental setup and laboratory results are reported including data on slow scan operation of the CCD and ...

Evidence for Miocene subduction beneath the Alboran Sea (Western Mediterranean) from 40Ar/39Ar age dating and the geochemistry of volcanic rocks from holes 977A and 978A [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Volcanic pebbles in gravels from Sites 977 and 978 in the Alboran Sea (western Mediterranean) were dated (using the 40Ar/ 39Ar single-crystal laser technique) and analyzed for their major- and trace-element compositions (determined by X-ray ...

Redox‐dependent binding and conformational equilibria govern the fluorescence decay of NAD(P)H in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this work, we reveal how different enzyme binding configurations influence the fluorescence decay of NAD(P)H in live cells using time‐resolved anisotropy imaging and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM). Mathematical modelling shows that the redox states of the NAD and NADP pools govern these configurations, shaping their fluorescence ...

Neutrophil deficiency increases T cell numbers at the site of tissue injury in mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In wild‐type mice, injury or acute inflammation induces neutrophil influx followed by macrophage accumulation. Mcl1ΔMyelo (neutrophil‐deficient) mice lack neutrophils, and in response to muscle injury show fewer macrophages and exhibit strikingly elevated T‐cell numbers, primarily non‐conventional “double‐negative” (DN) αβ and γδ T cells.

Factors Influencing Resistivity Inversion for CO2 Geological Storage Zones: A Quantitative Study

open access: yesSensors
This study establishes a homogeneous half-space and a horizontally layered two-layer background stratigraphy model using cross-borehole electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) based on an incomplete Gauss–Newton (IGN) method to investigate the ...
