METHODOLOGICAL APPROACHES TO DATA INTERPRETATION [PDF]

open access: yesStudiul Artelor şi Culturologie: Istorie, Teorie, Practică, 2018
Sociological research involves a complex route of investigation, ending with the data interpretation stage. As a result, the reader has access in a comprehensible language to field data. In this context, the understanding of the data depends on the rigor

Two-Step Approach to Processing Raw Strain Monitoring Data for Damage Detection of Structures under Operational Conditions

open access: yesSensors, 2021
Strain data of structural health monitoring is a prospective to be made full use of, because it reflects the stress peak and fatigue, especially sensitive to local stress redistribution, which is the probably damage in the vicinity of the sensor.

It is Not as Good as You Think! Evaluating Simultaneous Machine Translation on Interpretation Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Most existing simultaneous machine translation (SiMT) systems are trained and evaluated on offline translation corpora. We argue that SiMT systems should be trained and tested on real interpretation data. To illustrate this argument, we propose an interpretation test set and conduct a realistic evaluation of SiMT trained on offline translations.

Choir singing improves respiratory muscle strength and quality of life in patients with structural heart disease – HeartChoir: a randomised clinical trial

open access: yesSwiss Medical Weekly, 2020
AIMS OF THE STUDY Most patients with reduced exercise capacity and acquired or congenital structural heart disease also have a reduced respiratory muscle strength. The aim of this pilot study was to investigate whether choir singing in combination with

Analyzing Effects of Mixed Sample Data Augmentation on Model Interpretability [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Data augmentation strategies are actively used when training deep neural networks (DNNs). Recent studies suggest that they are effective at various tasks. However, the effect of data augmentation on DNNs' interpretability is not yet widely investigated.

Explainable Mixed Data Representation and Lossless Visualization Toolkit for Knowledge Discovery [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Developing Machine Learning (ML) algorithms for heterogeneous/mixed data is a longstanding problem. Many ML algorithms are not applicable to mixed data, which include numeric and non-numeric data, text, graphs and so on to generate interpretable models. Another longstanding problem is developing algorithms for lossless visualization of multidimensional

Training final year students in data presentation skills with an iterative report-feedback cycle

open access: yesJournal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, 2015
Although practical laboratory activities are often considered the linchpin of science education, asking students to produce many large practical reports can be problematic Practical reports require diverse skills, and therefore do not focus the students’

Application of a geostatistical algorithm for correcting well logging data when modelling complex hydrocarbon deposits at the stage of additional field exploration

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Геология и разведка, 2021
Background. Additional exploration of oil and gas reserves requires the application of information technologies for modelling all technological processes and interpreting the results of geophysical well logging.

Diphthamide synthesis is linked to the eEF2‐client chaperone machinery

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The diphthamide modification of eukaryotic translation elongation factor 2 (eEF2) is important for accurate protein synthesis. We addressed the potential coordination of de novo eEF2 synthesis with simultaneous or subsequent diphthamide modification. Our work reveals that the co‐chaperones Hgh1 and Cpr7, which are known to support folding of nascent ...

A histidine‐rich extension of the mitochondrial F0 subunit ATP6 from the ice worm Mesenchytraeus solifugus increases ATP synthase activity in bacteria

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The glacier ice worm Mesenchytraeus solifugus survives year‐round at 0 °C. Its ATP6 subunit, which forms a regulatory component of the proton pore in mitochondrial ATP synthase, has a carboxy‐terminal extension not found in any other organism examined to date. Here, we show that fusion of this extension to the homologous AtpB protein in E. coli results
