Interpretation of microarray data in cancer [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Cancer, 2007
Microarray studies aim at identifying homogeneous subtypes of cancer patients, searching for differentially expressed genes in tumours with different characteristics, or predicting the prognosis of patients. Using breast cancer as an example, we discuss the hypotheses underlying these studies, their power, and the validity and the clinical usefulness ...

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Strengthening pharmacy practice: Development and validation of the Resilience Scale [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled
Background/Aim. Despite the demanding nature of their roles in community pharmacies and their critical importance to patient safety, healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, are often not covered by the Resilience Scale. Therefore, the aim of the

Sexual dimorphism of the human corpus callosum: Digital morphometric study [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2006
Background/Aim. Changes in the morphology and the size of the corpus callosum, are related to various pathological conditions. An analysis of these changes requires data about sexual dimorphism of the corpus callosum, which we tried to obtain in our ...

Interpretation of EXAFS Data

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, 1995
An outline of the theory of X-ray absorption as applied to X-ray absorption spectroscopy is given, concentrating on EXAFS, showing how structural parameters are contained within the theory. A full description of the scattering problem and of inelastic effects is also included, and a description is given of how structural information may be extracted ...

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

A new physics interpretation of the IceCube data

open access: yes, 2014
IceCube has recently observed 37 events of TeV-PeV energies. The angular distribution, with a strong preference for downgoing directions, the spectrum, and the small muon to shower ratio in the data can not be accommodated assuming standard interactions ...

Angioectasias in the elderly: Interpreting the data [PDF]

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, 2018
We read with great interest the recent study by Nennstiel et al.1 As reported by the authors, capsule endoscopy has a higher diagnostic yield in the elderly presenting with small bowel (SB) bleeding,2 where such patients are more likely to present with overt bleeding compared to young patients.

Brucella NyxA and NyxB dimerization enhances effector function during infection

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Brucella abortus thrives inside cells thanks to the translocation of effector proteins that fine‐tune cellular functions. NyxA and NyxB are two effectors that destabilize the nucleolar localization of their host target, SENP3. We show that the Nyx proteins directly interact with each other and that their dimerization is essential for their function ...

The interpretation of complementation data

open access: yesGenetical Research, 1966
The evidence for complementation maps being linear is examined by analysis of all known complementation maps in micro-organisms, and by constructing maps from mutants randomly sampled from amongst those at theleu-2locus inNeurosporawith known complementing properties.
