Stream processing in data-driven computational science
2006 7th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Grid Computing, 2006The use of real-time data streams in data-driven computational science is driving the need for stream processing tools that work within the architectural framework of the larger application. Data stream processing systems are beginning to emerge in the commercial space, but these systems fail to address the needs of large-scale scientific applications.

Data processing and computer science theory
Proceedings of the fourteenth SIGCSE technical symposium on Computer science education - SIGCSE '83, 1983Theoretical results have had much greater impact on computing practice than we are normally aware of, and the practical significance of theoretical results can be expected to become more prominent in the future. We discuss the past and present significance for data processing specialists of some results in analysis of algorithms, languages, and program

Process Mining as the Superglue Between Data Science and Enterprise Computing
2014 IEEE 18th International Enterprise Distributed Object Computing Conference, 2014Process mining provides new ways to utilize the abundance of data in enterprises. Suddenly many organizations realize that survival is not possible without exploiting available data intelligently. A new profession is emerging: the data scientist. Just like computer science emerged as a new discipline from mathematics when computers became abundantly ...

This paper presents an evaluation of an attempt to utilise formal program design methods in the teaching of structured programming to B.Sc. Computer Science students in the first and second years of a Combined Science course and to B.A. students during the first year of a commercially orientated data processing course. The methodology adopted for the B.
