Epistasis-aware genome-wide association studies provide insights into the efficient breeding of high-yield and high-quality rice

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture
Marker-assisted selection (MAS) and genomic selection (GS) breeding have greatly improved the efficiency of rice breeding. Due to the influences of epistasis and gene pleiotropy, ensuring the actual breeding effect of MAS and GS is still a difficult ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Cryptographic Foundations of Pseudonymisation for Personal Data Protection

open access: yesCryptography
Pseudonymisation constitutes an essential technical and organisational measure for implementing personal data-protection safeguards. Its main goal is to hide identities of individuals, thus reducing data protection and privacy risks through facilitating ...

Legal aspects of Big Data - GDPR [PDF]

open access: yes
The use of Big Data presents significant legal problems, especially in terms of data protection. The existing legal framework of the European Union based in particular on the Directive no. 46/95/EC and the General Regulation on the Protection of Personal

Made in the USA? The influence of the US on the EU's data protection regime. CEPS Liberty and Security, November 2009 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Recent developments have shown that the EU’s border security policy is greatly influenced by the US. This influence simultaneously has implications for other EU policies, including those on data protection. This paper highlights that policy-making at the

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Bio-QSARs 2.0: Unlocking a new level of predictive power for machine learning-based ecotoxicity predictions by exploiting chemical and biological information

open access: yesEnvironment International
Practical, legal, and ethical reasons necessitate the development of methods to replace animal experiments. Computational techniques to acquire information that traditionally relied on animal testing are considered a crucial pillar among these so-called ...
