A Retrospective Analysis of Circular Economy and Industrial Decarbonization Metrics in the United States, 1998–2022

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Manufacturing and Processing, EarlyView.
Over two decades of emissions data are analyzed alongside economic indicators for 18 U.S. manufacturing industries. A retrospective analysis highlights interconnectedness (and in some cases, competition) between industrial growth, decarbonization, and materials circularity.

Interfacial Photoelectrochemistry in Organic Synthesis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Photoelectrodes have traditionally enjoyed widespread attention as heterogeneous catalysts for the activation of water and CO2 in energy research, while photoelectrochemistry with homogeneous molecular catalysts dominates the activations of more complex molecules in organic synthesis.

Integrated Chemoenzymatic Synthesis of the mRNA Vaccine Building Block N1‐Methylpseudouridine Triphosphate

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Pseudouridine‐5′‐triphosphate (ΨTP) and its N1‐methylated derivative (m1ΨTP) are crucial components in mRNA vaccine technology. Here, an atom‐economic, high‐yielding biocatalytic route for ΨTP synthesis is presented. A new chemoenzymatic route for m1ΨTP synthesis was developed.

Redirecting the Peptide Cleavage Causes Protease Inactivation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Cysteine proteases catalyze substrate cleavage by a two‐step acyl transfer mechanism. Newly designed peptidic inhibitors of human cathepsin B with N‐terminal carbamate warheads undergo a redirected cleavage and generate non‐canonical covalent complexes.

Tunable Endo/Exo Selectivity in Direct Catalytic Asymmetric 1,3‐Dipolar Cycloadditions with Polyfunctional Lewis Acid / Azolium‐Aryloxide Catalysts

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Catalytic asymmetric 1,3‐dipolar cycloadditions (1,3‐DCA) using iminoesters as ylide precursors offer a powerful approach to accessing stereochemically complex, biologically relevant pyrrolidines. While previous studies have already achieved impressive stereoselectivities, catalytic productivity remains a challenge, with turnover numbers (TON ...

A Homobimetallic Frustrated Lewis Pair Cobalt Catalyst for the Methanolysis of Hydrosilanes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
The bimetallic Co(I)/Co(–I) complex [Co(CO)2(κ3‐P,N,P‐PNHP)][Co(CO)4] (1) has shown excellent activities in the methanolysis of hydrosilanes, surpassing the related bimetallic Co(I)/Co(–I) complex [Co(CO)(PMe2Ph)(κ3‐P,N,P‐PNHP)][Co(CO)4] (2), the Co(II) complex [Co(Cl)2(κ3‐P,N,P‐PNHP)] (3), and the Co(I) complex [Co(CO)2(κ3‐P,N,P‐PNHP)]Cl (4).

From WGS to gels: Development and testing of PCR primers targeting toxic Digitalis in support of food safety

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise This study capitalized on a library of single‐nucleotide polymorphisms created via whole genome sequencing (WGS) to develop and test a PCR assay for detecting toxic Digitalis species in food products. Complex foods can be difficult to analyze, but safeguarding consumer well‐being and public health necessitates that products regulated ...

Review of the anatomical basis for predicting plutonium alpha particle radiation induced osteogenic cancers

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Plutonium was discovered and first synthesized in the early 1940's. Several isotopes of plutonium are used in nuclear technologies, 238Pu for heat generation and 239Pu for energy production and weapons. Both isotopes emit alpha particles, which pose a significant radiation hazard when incorporated into the body.
