Representation of Nonlinear Data Surfaces
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1973Summary: This paper is concerned with the use of ``intrinsic dimensionality'' in the representation of multivariate data sets that lie on nonlinear surfaces. The term intrinsic refers to the small, local-region dimensionality (\(mI\)) of the surface and is a measure of the number of parameters or factors that govern a data generating process.

Colour representation of biomedical data
Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing, 1985Recent developments in digital display technology have opened a wide range of possibilities for biomedical imaging. The opportunity to use colour is an important feature of video-display systems in clinical practice. Colour coding of biomedical data is a complex matter, which, however, may lead in many cases to an enhanced diagnostic interpretation of ...

Information processing systems use a two-state technique. Information processed by them must be converted into symbols which can be understood and manipulated by these systems. The operation which consists of transforming the data into binary digits is called coding (also, encoding, or data coding).

In the ocean of information that gets transferred over the supply chain, it is difficult to get what is required for the customer. Toward this end, a description of the information is necessary. This chapter explains how metadata describes the information.

While the fuzzy ER/EER model presented in Part II describes the fuzziness inherent in the conceptual aspects of data, the fuzzy relational data model to be discussed in Part III will deal with the fuzziness inherent in the contents and integrity constraints of data.
