This chapter will introduce seven representative wireless communication technologies, which have been extensively used to realise data transmission across diverse scales. Considering the coverage requirements in different application scenarios, four short-range coverage technologies (i.e., Bluetooth, Zigbee, Z-Wave and WiFi) and three wider-coverage ...

Data transmission between neurons
Kybernetik, 1968By modulating sinusoidally the impulse frequency of the inhibitory input to the slowly adapting stretch receptor of Crustacea, the impulse frequency of the sensory neuron becomes sinusoidally modulated. The systems involved are linear for amplitudes of modulation up to 70% of the steady state frequency.

Investigating multimedia traffic over optical networks that provide extremely high data rates makes it a very attractive medium for multiservice transmission in building networks at low cost. Recently, there has been active research going on congestion control in optical networks to provide the communication reliability and bandwidth efficiency.

It is well-known that conventional double-sideband (DSB) transmission is not bandwidth-efficient; and historically, in applications where bandwidth is relatively scarce, analog single-sideband (SSB) and vestigial-sideband (VSB) techniques have been used.

Optoelectronic Data Transmission
1974 IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Symposium Record, 1974A ten-channel 15M bit/s optoelectronic data transmission system has been designed, built and tested. The system is configured as a multichannel point-to-point communicator with associated test equipment. The design uses GaAs LEDs, silicon p-i-n photodiodes, and flexible fiber optic bundles.

In Chapter 4, we examined signal design for baseband pulse transmission, and described the compromises among the bandwidth of the transmitted signal, noise immunity, and mitigation of intersymbol interference inherent in any design. Peak and mean-square intersymbol interference were defined, and it was shown how linear channel distortion can degrade ...
