Image databases are not databases with images [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
In this paper, we discuss a number of new problems that arise in image databases, and that set them apart from traditional databases. The fact that image databases are based on similarity, rather than matching, creates a whose set of new issues. Most noticeably, while matching is, by and large, a well defined concept, there are many possible types of ...

Replenishing co‐downregulated miR‐100‐5p and miR‐125b‐5p in malignant germ cell tumors causes growth inhibition through cell cycle disruption

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MiR‐99a‐5p/miR‐100‐5p (functionally identical) and miR‐125b‐5p microRNAs are downregulated in malignant germ cell tumors (GCTs). Combination replenishment of these microRNAs using mimics resulted in growth inhibition in representative cell lines, with consequent downregulation of target genes involved in cell cycle (confirmed by flow cytometry) and ...

Quality assurance of integrative big data for medical research within a multihospital system

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2022
Background: The need is growing to create medical big data based on the electronic health records collected from different hospitals. Errors for sure occur and how to correct them should be explored.

Table manipulation in simplicial databases [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
In \cite{Spi}, we developed a category of databases in which the schema of a database is represented as a simplicial set. Each simplex corresponds to a table in the database. There, our main concern was to find a categorical formulation of databases; the simplicial nature of the schemas was to some degree unexpected and unexploited.

PlantCARE, a database of plant cis-acting regulatory elements and a portal to tools for in silico analysis of promoter sequences

open access: yesNucleic Acids Res., 2002
PlantCARE is a database of plant cis-acting regulatory elements, enhancers and repressors. Regulatory elements are represented by positional matrices, consensus sequences and individual sites on particular promoter sequences.

Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic and associated with benefit from chemo‐immunotherapy in metastatic triple‐negative breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We assessed the associations between the gut microbiota and outcome in metastatic triple‐negative breast cancer patients treated with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immunotherapy. Our data indicate that high gut microbiota alpha diversity was associated with improved clinical outcome and with benefit from immunotherapy.

Discovering new technique for mapping relational database based on semantic web technology [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
Most of data on the Web are still stored in relational databases. Therefore, it is more important to make the correspondence between relational databases (RDB) and ontologies for storing the Web data. In this paper, we present an new approach to map the data stored in relational databases into the Semantic Web, we exploit simple mappings based on some ...
