Database Design

1985
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the database design. To manage a database one would normally purchase a Database Management System (DBMS). Each DBMS works on a particular logical data structure, that is, it organizes its records in a certain way.

Database Design

2003
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses database design. The term relvar merely means semi-temporal and thus contains current information only. This chapter focuses on temporal data specifically. The reason is that “the moving point now” is a concept that applies to temporal data specifically.

Metrology database design [PDF]

open access: possibleIMTC/99. Proceedings of the 16th IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (Cat. No.99CH36309), 2003
We report the creation of a special electronic database for metrological information. The original concept involved the use of a MS-DOS based system and allowed us to explore the basic design requirements. We continued to develop and refine this software over a 4-year period.

Automating physical database design in a parallel database

Proceedings of the 2002 ACM SIGMOD international conference on Management of data - SIGMOD '02, 2002
Physical database design is important for query performance in a shared-nothing parallel database system, in which data is horizontally partitioned among multiple independent nodes. We seek to automate the process of data partitioning. Given a workload of SQL statements, we seek to determine automatically how to partition the base data across multiple ...

Evolutionary database design

[1989] Proceedings. Fifth International Conference on Data Engineering, 2003
An approach for evolutionary database design is presented which tries to remedy some of the shortcomings of previous design methods. The approach distinguishes clearly between a conceptual and a logical database design. A conceptual schema models the relevant aspects of reality. A logical schema describes the structure of the database as generic tables,

Relay database design

IEEE Computer Applications in Power, 1995
Many electric utilities use computer databases to store their relay data. The database naturally gives access to many users, coordinates modifications, and generates the necessary reports for different purposes. The relay database must accommodate a wide variety of protective devices. Users of a relay database include relay engineers, relay technicians,

Database Design Based on B

2006
This chapter is devoted to the integration of the ASSO features in B. ASSO is a database design methodology defined for achieving conceptual schema consistency, logical schema correctness, flexibility in reflecting the real-life changes on the schema and efficiency in accessing and storing information.

Database Design

1994
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the designing of database. Databases with different data models have different structures for representing data; with relational databases, the fundamental data structures to provide such representations calling relational tables.

Physical Database Design

1996
Logical database design is the process of constructing a business data model, that is, a model of the business rules applying to some enterprise. Physical database design involves taking the results from the logical design process, fine-tuning them against the performance and storage requirements of some application and then implementing them in the ...

Database Design for Microservices

2019
In this chapter, we discuss the various critical factors of designing a database for microservices applications. As per the narrative of the microservices architecture, each microservice should have its own databases. Segregation based on data access helps fit the best technology to handle respective business problems.
