Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Twitter data analysis by means of Strong Flipping Generalized Itemsets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Twitter data has recently been considered to perform a large variety of advanced analysis. Analysis ofTwitter data imposes new challenges because the data distribution is intrinsically sparse, due to a large number of messages post every day by using a ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A complete system for controlling and monitoring the timing of the LHCb experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The LHCb experiment at CERN will study the results of the production of B/antiB in the LHC accelerator mesons with the higher precision ever. It is vital that the experiment is able to record sub-detectors signals at the optimal detector efficiency ...

A focus on fouling of nanofiltration membranes in the treatment of two-phase olive mill wastewater by boundary flux and pore blocking theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The implementation of membranes in water and wastewater treatment processes has significantly increased in the last decades. However, membrane fouling leads to increased expenses if not properly examined and considered, and this is especially problematic

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

A novel fabrication approach for multifunctional graphene-based thin film nano-composite membranes with enhanced desalination and antibacterial characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A practical fabrication technique is presented to tackle the trade-off between the water flux and salt rejection of thin film composite (TFC) reverse osmosis (RO) membranes through controlled creation of a thinner active selective polyamide (PA) layer ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
