How to Databasify a Blockchain: the Case of Hyperledger Fabric [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Within the last few years, a countless number of blockchain systems have emerged on the market, each one claiming to revolutionize the way of distributed transaction processing in one way or the other. Many blockchain features, such as byzantine fault tolerance (BFT), are indeed valuable additions in modern environments.

Impact of Various Rotary Friction Welding Process Parameters on the Mechanical Properties of a Steel–Aluminum Joint

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Rotary friction welding of steel E355 and the aluminum alloy EN AW‐6082 can lead to the formation of brittle intermetallic phases. The primary process parameters are varied in order to determine their influence on this intermetallic phase formation and the resulting mechanical properties.

Identifying the Major Sources of Variance in Transaction Latencies: Towards More Predictable Databases [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Decades of research have sought to improve transaction processing performance and scalability in database management systems (DBMSs). However, significantly less attention has been dedicated to the predictability of performance: how often individual transactions exhibit execution latency far from the mean?

Facile Synthesis of CuxS Electrocatalysts for CO2 Conversion into Formate and Study of Relations Between Cu and S with the Selectivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Copper sulfide based electrocatalysts for CO2 conversion are selective for production of formate as major product. Transformations under electrochemical conditions result in significant sulfur loss, and this study examines the nature of how persistent, residual sulfur (observed as surface SO42– species and S dissolved in the electrolyte) can sustain ...

Biologically‐Inspired Melt Electrowriting for the Generation of Highly Biomimetic Functional Myocardium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, melt electrowriting is used to fabricate a 3D printed scaffold design that generates engineered cardiac tissues with in‐plane contraction, mimicking natural myocardium. It is shown that these tissues display advanced maturation and functionality.
