An "R‐spondin code" for multimodal signaling ON‐OFF states

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 46, Issue 10, October 2024.
R‐spondins (RSPOs) are well‐established Wnt agonists but they recently were also shown to act as BMP and FGF antagonists. RSPOs function as natural protein targeting chimeras, bridging target receptors with transmembrane E3 ligases (RNF43, ZNRF3) for target internalization. We identified additional RSPO candidate targets and propose an “R‐spondin code”

Loss of NLRP6 increases the severity of kidney fibrosis

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Physiology, Volume 239, Issue 9, September 2024.
Abstract While NLRP3 contributes to kidney fibrosis, the function of most NOD‐like receptors (NLRs) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains unexplored. To identify further NLR members involved in the pathogenesis of CKD, we searched for NLR genes expressed by normal kidneys and differentially expressed in human CKD transcriptomics databases. For NLRP6,

Early warning signals observed in motor activity preceding mood state change in bipolar disorder

open access: yesBipolar Disorders, Volume 26, Issue 5, Page 468-478, August 2024.
Abstract Introduction Alterations in motor activity are well‐established symptoms of bipolar disorder, and time series of motor activity can be considered complex dynamical systems. In such systems, early warning signals (EWS) occur in a critical transition period preceding a sudden shift (tipping point) in the system.
