Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

An iterative procedure for piecewise affine identification of nonlinear interconnected systems

open access: yes, 2007
The problem of identifying a discrete-time nonlinear system composed by interconnected linear and nonlinear subsystems is addressed in this paper. A representation based on linear fractional transformations is adopted to model the considered class of ...

Calculation and Simulation of the Mechanical Properties and Surface Structures for η′ Precipitate in Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Alloys

open access: yesCrystals
Existing experiments have shown that in Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys, solute Cu, when substituting for Al atoms, can enter the interior of η′ precipitate, changing its composition significantly, but the mechanical properties of the η′ compound containing dissolved

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Identification of piecewise affine LFR models of interconnected systems

open access: yes, 2011
Identification of interconnected systems is a challenging problem in which it is crucial to exploit the available knowledge about the interconnection structure.

How phagocytic cells kill bacteria: Lessons from a professional killer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
How phagocytic cells ingest and kill bacteria has been studied for more than a century, but many questions remain unanswered. The study of the amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum brings new answers, and new questions. Professional phagocytic cells such as neutrophils and macrophages, as well as free‐living soil amoebae like Dictyostelium discoideum, employ

Acoustic measurement of additive manufactured concentric tube reverse flow resonators

open access: yes, 2019
This study investigates acoustic properties of additive manufactured (AM) concentric tube reverse flow (RF) resonators where acoustic attenuation with smaller sample length is achieved by increasing effective travel length of acoustic waves within a ...
